MBB at TCU

Post by BelgradeBobcat » Sun Dec 22, 2024 1:20 pm

Game is on ESPN+
Last non-conference game. TCU's defense is tough. 'Bout all we can do is shoot threes, but so far a few have gone down.

TCU’s got a tough defense but there are some open looks that aren’t falling so far. Cats getting pushed off the 3 point line a lot. Screeners need to set harder screens and ball handlers need to rub off those screeners more

This one is going sideways. We've fouled them on three point attempts three times. Their commentator says their normally bad at free throws but they're hitting all of them of course. They're just knocking the ball out of our hands at will. Non-conference is almost over. Let's watch football.

42-25 TCU @ Halftime. They’re the better team. Cats have struggled offensively, are giving up too many FT attempts, and are getting whooped on the glass. Need to dig deep the last 20 minutes or else this game turns into another embarrassment

Going the wrong direction in Dec. With performances early I was encouraged. Not something now.

Keep in mind, TCU is very competitive in the toughest basketball conference in the country. We should look marginal against them.

While registering my vehicles the assessor stated "I have had both Cat and Griz students and alums work for me and the Griz end up working under the direction of the Cats."

Have to disagree. 3 straight tourney wins and trip to NCAA it seems line we should be able to get transfers and recruits to be at least competitive with teams, and early season we were.

Up to this year we always had a guard who could penetrate and either score, get fouled or draw and dish. This year all we have is Patrick McMahon and he doesn't finish, dish or get fouled.
Agonkpolo can shoot, but can't create off the dribble. Jed Miller can pass, but can't create either. I hope he comes up with a combination that can draw defenders so our shooters can get an open shot.

We have no quick players who are capable of penetration period,
he only you recruits slow tall shooters. If your gonna recruit from out of state at least get some quickness.

As I was pondering these two posts, it came to me, We do have one player who can penetrate.. Brandon Walker. If we didnt have him, we really would be in a world of hurt. I hope he can continue to learn to look for open shooters. Would i like a tough as nails penetrating guard. of course. I'm hopeful also for Bryce Zephir to step up and I do enjoy Jed Miller's heart and development. Go Cats.

Coming into this year I was hopeful for another BSC crown. After what I have seen this pre-season I am hoping for a winning record.

Walker has the ability, when he wants to. There in lies the problem. When…he…wants…to! In 7 of the 8 losses, he was one of the 3-4 players in dbl figures. The point here, we still lost. DesertBobcat made the point earlier in this thread of why he believes the team under performs when he’s on the floor. Yes he scores, but at the expense of the rest of the team. He has the quickness, but lacks the handles and vision to stay out of trouble. How many dbl and triple team scenarios did he purposely drive into at TCU?

Were much better with Jed and Bryce on the floor.

We were 5 - 8 in non conference last season with a weaker schedule. I think we'll be fine.

So, who is going to be the Robert Ford this year? Because we would have been toward the bottom without him last year, Brown the year before that, X man the year before that......

Record doesn't show everything. Seemed like they were stronger early. Had some good showings. Last few games were not good.

They haven't looked as good over the past few games, agreed. I guess I'm an optimist and have confidence that they'll get it going.

Well, they still look better than they did last December.
