Watching the ISU/ Gris game waiting for the Cat game to start. During a timeout they show the upcoming schedule. Riley Corcoran says “In what looks to be the likely championship matchup preview the griz travel to take on the Vikings next Thursday.”

Bless his heart, it must be hard to call loss after loss after loss against the Bobcats.

Riley is just another in a long line of not so great homer announcers for the grizLLies. I honestly want to listen to some old calls of his when he was our announcer. See of its thebsame or different. Especially listen to him call a Cat/griz fb game in which we won.

Not saying I agree, this is essentially a 3 team race at this stage (PSU, MSU, UM). But in what world are you living in? Griz hoops has won 24 of the last 30 meetings. In the hoops world, we’ve run not only this rivalry but this conference this century. It’s great to see you guys having a competitive roster again, but let’s not pretend here.

Beyond the 3 obviously in the race, what in the world is UNC doing? They retain at least some guys from a team that was pretty damn good last season, and now they’re 2nd to last and likely to take a loss to NAU? Am I missing something?

Because the cats are a full game ahead of the gris right now. It's arrogant to assume the gris will overtake the Cats based on what has happened in the past.

That’s true and not my point, but you guys have to come to Missoula still in a game we will be favored. The Griz knew this would be a transition year, the only reason for any expectations for a team that lost all but two guys was #0. For us to be in a position where we’re squarely in the title race is indicative of Travis’s ability. And regardless, PSU may very well lock up the 1 unless someone starts to hand them some losses. They still have 4 games vs the Montana’s, but Portland is a very tough place to win. What’s that to say? One game leads with more than half of league play to go, a game in Missoula outstanding, in a league where playing your best come March is all that matters(and Travis has the best track record in the entire league for getting his teams to do so), is absolutely nothing to write home about.

I’ll say this. No reasonable Griz fan is going to get up in a Cat fans face about football. Bobby is 2-7. You kick our ass in in-state recruiting and run it down our throats every time we play. In that same sense, no reasonable Cat fan is going to get up in a Griz fans face about basketball, as some of you are doing here. Travis is not leaving Griz basketball until he retires. He’s 17-6 against the Cats. Logie has beat him twice. Travis is going to end up the winningest coach in Big Sky MBB history. As we speak, he has the youngest team in the conference squarely in the title race. Let’s be reasonable here. 24 of 30, 17-6, and 7-4 in Bozeman all paint pretty clear pictures.

Lots of balance in the Big Sky. Weber looked very good last night. Barely pulled it out. And by the way, yes men's basketball is one sport where UM has pretty much continued to dominate. Sprinkle came in and finally got some wins and so has Logie. But the long term trend is still in place.

The Bobcats are once again relevant in the league and that's great. On the other hand when it comes to football and women's basketball, the trend is now all Bobcat. But no matter what the sport, winning in Missoula will never be an easy task for the Bobcats. Yes, the griz will definitely be favored to win when our guys go there and based on what the UM ladies did yesterday, the Lady Cats will have their hands full in Missoula as well.

I was referring to loss (Nov. 22) after loss (Dec. 20) after loss (Jan. 17). You surely can't expect fans of the 2nd place team to not mention it if the 3rd place team's radio announcer refers to a "likely championship preview" between his team and the one in first. Congrats on your 24 of 30, speaking of recent history we're pretty happy over here too with our 3 of the last 4 Big Sky Tournament championships!

I agree. An again competent MSU (and Weber to some extent) is good for the league. Last year, UM and NoCo were the only top 200 teams. At various times this year, we’ve had 6 between 140 and 200. Bears well for our leagues respect amongst the mid-major leagues. Next we just need to clean up the reffing so our rep isn’t shell-shocked when there’s nothing called the first 10 minutes of every March Madness game.

We are not yet halfway through the Big Sky schedule. I think its a bit early to say it's a three team race just yet.

You seem pretty confident for the 3rd best team in the state.

Meh - not a big deal. It certainly could be the championship matchup. Maybe Riley replaces “likely” with possible.

Things happen in basketball. The three is called “the great equalizer” for a reason. When a team struggling from deep comes into your building and drills 12 on a 57% clip, many of which were contested prayers, you just have to shake their hand.
