The Montana State men’s and women’s tennis program each had a student-athlete named Big Sky Conference Player of the Week for their efforts last weekend.
Sophomores Stephanie Jasper and Pawel Turzanski each led their respective squads to undefeated marks.
Jasper, a native of Bozeman, Mont., led the Bobcats in a big weekend that included two road wins over Gonzaga 4-3 and conference opponent Eastern Washington 5-2. Jasper went 2-0 at the No. 1 singles and No. 2 doubles.
The sophomore defeated the Bulldogs’ top player Aglaya Kokurina on Friday and knocked off the Eagles’ Marie Demerath 6-4, 6-1 on Saturday. In addition, she combined with McKenzie Hilmer to beat Gonzaga’s Clare Dodge and Danielle Farmer 8-1 and Eastern Washington’s Rachel Berger and Judy Liening 8-2.
Turzanski, a native of Lodz, Poland, helped Montana State to a 3-0 record. The Bobcats swept Lewis-Clark State, Seattle and MSU Billings as Turzanski was undefeated in both singles and doubles play.
The sophomore knocked off LCSU’s Jonatan Berhane 6-0, 6-2 at the No. 2 singles and Seattle’s Dylan Reetzi in straight sets at the No. 3 spot on Friday. Turzanski then followed that up with a 6-2, 6-1 victory over MSU Billings’ Luis Olivera at the No. 2 on Saturday.
He also teamed up with Jakub Dybala at No. 1 doubles, where they earned three wins. The duo is now 8-2 at the No. 1 spot this season.
