MSU Hockey
I was wondering, does anybody have any idea if MSU will look to make a real hockey program instead of the club hockey we have now? With the addition of UND and the fact that the Hellcats beat the girlz friday night I think it would be awessome if we could develop a good hockey program at MSU.

No where to play and we would have to add a women's sport = not a chance.Gorak wrote:I was wondering, does anybody have any idea if MSU will look to make a real hockey program instead of the club hockey we have now? Re: MSU Hockey
That's a shame. Given our location (relatively close to canada and the midwest) and the fact that it is (usually) cold here most of the year, we could have the potential to develop a decent hockey program. But I suppose it does come down to the almighty dollar. Too bad, at least in hockey they don't suspend you for half a game for throwing a punch

To add to your question, I don't think it's entirely out of the question, but budget-wise right now it doesn't seem very feasible. But we do have a decent schedule considering it's a club sport.

Re: MSU Hockey
I would love to see hockey at MSU as a school sport. We would have to add a women's sport, why not women's hockey?
Anyways, the big problem that I see with hockey is the expense of the facility. I am not sure why they are so expensive, if it is the equipment required to make the ice or what, maybe it's the insurance?? I remember talking to a guy once here in Billings and he played in an adult league and he told me it was cheaper to drive up to Canada to practice and play than it was to rent out local ice time. That was about 10 years ago so things might have changed since.
In Canada there are ice arenas all over the place and maybe even more in the Midwest around Minnesota etc...
