The Big Sky Conference has selected the men's Track and Field Athletes of the Week and the Montana State distance medley relay certainly deserved the accolade.
The quartet of Cristian Soratos, Nick Melone, Grant Grosvenor and Jacob Kirk combined for a gold medal, as well as a new program record while competing at the Mountain States Games in Pocatello, Idaho on Friday, Feb. 1. The Bobcats crossed the finish line with a time of 9:53.13 and with the altitude adjustment, it becomes 9:45.33. They broke the previous record of 9:50.43 set back in 1995 and the new record also gives the Bobcats a ranking of eighth in the nation.
Other awards were given to Portland State's Geronne Black, while Southern Utah's Kayla Kovar and Northern Arizona's Deante Kemper were named women's and men's field AOTW.
Montana State returns to action this Friday, Feb. 8, when they host the Bozeman Running Company Invitational. The Bobcats will compete against Montana and Weber State in double-dual scored meet. Field events begin at 4:30 p.m., followed by running events at 5:30 p.m.
