Record for strength coach

Post by mchammer » Tue Feb 24, 2009 9:08 am

Bobcat strength and conditioning coach Andrea Montague broke the world record for women in the heavy hammer throw Sunday. She threw 98' 10" with a 16 lb. hammer from a standing position. She took 4th for women overall in the Highland Games World Championships in Phoenix. She is a great coach who can walk her talk. She has carried 200 lbs in each hand (farmer's walk) a distance of 100'.

That's huge!! I love the Highland Games. Many of those events are used in various forms in the World's Strongest Man competition.

Very impressive and great that we have her as our coach! It must be very motivating to have a coach who knows what it takes to be the best!

If I tried to carry 200lbs in each hand, this would happen:

No Coach Montague is not the primary coach for football, that is coach Samuelson. But she assists with football at times. I believe that she could be very effective with any sport, anywhere. And by the way, she informed me this afternoon that she missed the WR by 3" but got the American Record.

Coach Montague is a wonderful person. Hats off to her for setting a world record and for working & making it in a demanding profession. Just because she is a "girl" doesn't mean she can't teach the male student athletes corrrect strength conditioning program/techniques. No doubt we could use her help in developing a winning attitude much less on how to get bigger, stronger and faster. Go Coach Montague!! Go Cats!!

This is gonna sound like smack and kind of sexist, but she'd kick your ass every day of the week and twice on Saturday!

BDizzle would be lucky to lob a 16 lb. bowling ball 10 feet down the lane.

Retiring my moniker. It's time to ride off into the sunset. It's been a fun ride. Go Cats.

And I'm guessing yours too. And she would probably knock most of the Bobcats Oline on their butts.

Lol I love when you guys bring up Kroy. The Griz dominated the Bobcats. The Griz defense dominated the Bobcats offense. Kroy didn't have a great game but it was one game and you could tell the Bobcats were paying extra attention to him. He did have a highlight reel tackle that probably helped him win the honor for BEST DEFENSIVE PLAYER IN THE NATION! And now he is playing and contributing in the NFL. But keep bringing him up. Thats fine withe me.

From her bio... Andrea (Thornton) Montague is originally from Shelton Washington and went to college at Washington State University. There she received her bachelor’s degree in Kinesiology, a minor in Strength Training and was a two-time All American in track and field, in hammer and discus. She has also competed in two USA track and field championships and the Olympic trials in 2004. Andrea spent 3 years as a volunteer throws coach under the supervision of her coach and mentor Debra Farwell while still competing in Track and Field. After her throwing career she spent two years as a Strength and Conditioning Intern at Washington State University. In April of last year Andrea competed in her first APF Powerlifting competition, squatting 510lbs, benching 300lbs and deadlifting 435lbs. Andrea is also Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist under the National Strength and Conditioning Association and is Strength and Conditioning Coach Certified under the Collegiate Strength and Conditioning Coaches association.

Now BDizzle take foot out of mouth and pray [-o< she doesn't track you down.

I have been powerlifting for years and I have never seen a woman put up those kind of numbers, including women using gear (squat suit, deadlift suit and bench shirt). That is very impressive. She must have an incredible work ethic!
