I see the Chronicle didn't run our story today so I'll post it here. Bobcat Nick Lam qualified for the nationals in javelin:

May 29, 2009 – BOZEMAN, Mont. – Montana State javelin thrower Nick Lam qualified for the NCAA Outdoor Track National Championships Friday by placing third in the event at the Midwest Regionals in Norman, Oklahoma. The top five placers in each event advance to the national meet. Lam, a junior, threw a personal best 220’1” to place behind the winner Anthony Fairbanks of New Mexico State. Fairbanks won with a toss of 225’9”. Senior Dustin Degen also scored in the event placing seventh with a throw of 209’10”, a season’s best.

“I felt really good out there,” Lam said. “That throw was my first one. I didn’t throw very well in the finals, but I was glad to throw a personal best even in a slight headwind. The competition was pretty good.”

Junior Ali Jones also scored at the regional meet Friday placing 8th in the hammer throw with a toss of 175’8”, short of Jones’ season best of 179’10”. Loren Groves of Kansas State won the event with a throw of 202’6”.

“These kids all represented Montana State well,” head coach Dale Kennedy said. “Congratulations to Nick. Jorah Griffith, our javelin coach, does a great job coaching those kids.”

Two-time national indoor pole vault champ Ellie Rudy tied for sixth in the pole vault at a height of 12’10”, short of her season’s best. Alicia Rue of Minnesota won the women’s pole vault at a height of 14’1.75”. Senior sprinter Dan Johnson fell short of the finals in the 400 meter run, timing at 47.29. Johnson would have had to break 47 seconds to get in the final. Justin Oliver of Texas A & M has the fastest 400 time going into Saturday’s final at 45.55.
