This is mentioned in another thread, but seriously deserves its own. Wow! Fastest time in nation this season. Also fastest time in the Fieldhouse and first sub 4 minute time, according to MSU web site records listing.
It's also noteworthy that Chris Wilson (MSU football) ran a 6.5 55-meters. He won, of course, and was .12 (that's a lot) seconds ahead of the runner-up. The school record is 6.34. Joey Thomas has the 4th fastest 55 time at 6.41

Good stuff to wake up to today - congratulations Patrick, your a special young man.
Also it was a surprise to see Chris Wilson's name - thanks for the clarification Tom as I was wondering if it was the same Chris Wilson.

Great run Casey.
I was watching on BSTV and was wondering who the kid for MSU was (Wilson). Good to see him running again. Will he still be participating in spring ball ? Will he also be competing in outdoor ? I have mixed feelings.
mchammer any thoughts ?

What a college track and field meet! I am so proud of our entire program, and I include our officials, announcer and field house crew. I'm also proud of another member of our team, our new SID Leslie Masterpaul. There was appropriate coverage at msubobcats.com this morning, with complete easy to understand results. Best coverage I've ever seen there. I heard there wasn't anything in Chronicle. Oops if that's true.
I couldn't sleep last night because of what I saw. We were all up late, with the meet going until 10:40 PM. The team met and celebrated dominating wins on the men's side over ISU and UM, and lots of lifetime bests. Then they helped pick up the arena, and went to a team dinner. At 8 AM this morning they were back in the arena coaching 200 kids for the Little Bobcat
Track program. I hope they get some sleep after today's workout.
This is a very special group of athletes. Patrick Casey is on top of the NCAA mile list now by about three seconds with an altitude adjusted 3:54.59. The list shows the perfomance occurred in a dual meet, an anomoly as you look down the list. The short of it is this, no one in the NCAA can run like that at altitude, with or without competition. He did the whole thing himself. It happened, and when I saw it I started screaming. And I wondered what he, or our program could do with a crowd behind us. I'm not complaining, but except for a very loyal and tough group of people, we're alone out there. Meet's like this affirm what some of us have always believed, that Montana athletes are great, and our meets are the best we compete at. All that's missing are fans.
Happy to see Chris in uniform winning, but not as happy as he was. It's so right to have him on the team. I don't know about Spring track, football etc... But what a great recovery from shoulder surgery. I'm guessing he'll get better every week. Look through results and you'll see a lot of very good marks. Our team is really pulling together. Our men will likely take the lead on the BSC lists for point potential, and we'll be better outdoors.

Good to hear hammer !
It would be very cool to see Wilson, Pickering, Nguyen, and MacDonald do well in the sprints.

That was awesome! Roger Bannister eat your heart out!
And he did it without a rabbit or anyone within a lap.
Thanks for posting that-I enjoyed it.

Also, I assume running sub 4 is more difficult on the indoor short track...

Word has spread around the world. letsrun.com features the video of his race, very active message board. The magnitude of his performance is still soaking in.

I don't know the first thing about Track and Field. But I hear that MSU's wooden running track is one of the fastest tracks because it almost acts like a springboard for runners and propels them forward. Is running a sub 4 mile something Casey would be able to do just as easily on a different/traditional track? (easily isn't the right word because it's impressive either way. Just couldn't think of a better word)

Patrick has the ability to continue after college, no doubt. Our banked mondo track is very fast but all tracks offer advantages and disadvantages. It's hard to say how much the track enhanced his performance. Maybe some day the rules will be more specific about banked 200m track construction and all tracks will be the same. NCAA's will require a qualifying heat, which will affect his performance in both qualifying and finals. And he will have to deal with traffic, or maybe not. He might just take the lead and hold it the whole way. He may not be as on as he was on the 4th, lots of factors. So it will be hard to directly compare his performances. I'm glad I got to see him on the 4th.

I love track and field and if I lived in Bozeman I would make a point of attending at least half of the meets. I make every home football game so I guess in all fairness I need to try and get to Bozeman for one outdoot meet each year. Sorry, no indoor meets, the weather in Bozeman is just too cold for this CA guy! These performances are amazing to see, especially when you consider the population of MT and the difficulting recruiting for T&F at a school like MSU. You have to give credit to the T&F coaches. Seems like every year we have one or two athletes rated in the top 10 in the US.

Redshirt sophomore indoors, yes. Outdoors a junior.
