Patrick runs today to get into the NCAA championship. Top 12 will qualify. He has the #1 qualifying time going into today's race. So if your stuck inside today at around 2:45 MST then watch it live here. http://www.goducks.com/mediaPortal/play ... OEM_ID=500" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Finished 12th in the prelim with a time of 4:01.54 and didn't qualify. Winning time in the prelim was 4:00.87 so tight race.

Those are results from the NCAA indoor not the West Regional Outdoor...he did make it by getting 5th in the final.

Casey runs the prelim thursday around 5:15 our time. It says 6:15 on the ncaa site and I assume that's local Des Moines time. The final is Saturday at 11:30 our time.

Don't let this distract you from the fact that the griz blew a 22-0 lead.

Makes him 2 time all-american. Amazing job. Noticed that most of the meet records for his event range from 6-15 seconds faster. Kind of highlights the level of competition that he is up against.

Anybody remember how he did last year in this event and how it compared or did he even qualify for nationals last year?

Congratulations Patrick - you've put in great deal of work and a huge effort today.

He didn't run outdoor last year. Not sure how red shirts work in track.

Here's how All America works in track:
Track and Field

Also administered by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association, the selection rules are that the top eight finishers in each individual event, as well as American competitors who finish outside of the top eight in their event but are among the top eight of the American finishers in an event, earn All-America designation. Relays are judged strictly on a top-eight basis. The cutoff of eight places is the same for both indoor and outdoor competition. The student-athlete's team must be a member of the USTFCCCA.

MSU - 16 team National Champions (most recent 2024); 57 individual National Champions (most recent 2023).

Nice work Patrick! Ballsey move with 500 to go...went from 14th to the lead. He said it best himself in the Chronicle article, "I wouldn't have been satisfied if I would have just sat back and kicked hard and got sixth or seventh". He went for it, that's for sure.....he can hold his head up high!

Casey was just a sophmore, hopefully he'll have a few more shots at a National Title. Great year, Patrick, keep it up!
