cross country scoring question

Just got this week's "Cat Tracks" email. In reading through it, I noticed that our Men's cross country team took third at the BSC championships. What caught my eye even more was that we took third while have four guys finish in the top 10.
So, how many runners score? 4/10 in the top 10 sounds outstanding and I'm surprised two other teams scored better.
