3....

Dave Gantt (moved up into administration after a VERY successful coaching stint)
Miya took over for Gantt. That didn't go so well
Schaubb...pretty much continued on the same path as Miya.

Gantt is actually the head coach at Gonzaga.

I was going to school when Dave Gantt hung it up. That was the last year the team had much success if my memory serves me right. I remember Shroyer being packed that last year. They were a fun team to watch.

Ditto. It was a lot of fun to go to those volleyball games. Gantt applied for the job again after Miya left but... wasn't hired. Glad he landed at Gonzaga.

I have one name Jeff Carroll - Billings Senior girls coach all his duaghters are done and he has done everything he can do at the high School level. He has produced more college athletes out of his program than alot of supposed college coaches. He is not only the most respected volleyball coach in this state but out here in Washington he is well respected too. I think if MSU took him you would get the in-state athletes you need and all the best from Wyoming, Washington, and Idaho as well. He will win!!!!!! which our program has not done since Dave left. Why did we choose Miya over Jerry Weir as well? Dumb moves whoever made those choices. We need Jeff Carroll.
JMHO :D :D :D

I just learned more about Montana high school volleyball coaches in one post then I have learned in the past 10 years. I like the idea of getting a guy that is local, proven at a lower level, and could either have long term success at MSU or use MSU as a stepping stone on his way up the coaching ladder!

Jeff ran track for MSU late 70's. He's a good idea for new coach. Very high principles, strong leader.

Another candidate might be Sheila Williams, Helena High volleyball coach. Coached the Helena High Bengals to the last two state championships; coached the last three Montana Gatorade Players of the Year (Kelsey Williams - 2009, Monica Grimsrud - 2010, and Kyndal Williams - 2011); and her daughter Kyndal is a senior this year graduating this spring. This past February she was named the state's AA Coach of of the Year for 2010-2011, and most likely will be awarded the same honor for 2011-2012. Don't know much about her coaching background outside of Helena High (she's been there 13 years).

Any update on the status of a new VB coach?

Not that we've been told. I'm going to put a call into Fields in the next couple days to see what, if anything, is up. Also was trying to do a "what everyone else does while this going on" story, but was told nothing special is happening.

Gidal, what is the recruiting timeframe for VB? I would have thought it would be similar to FB considering the similar season timeframe but not exactly sure. Seems odd to me that MSU doesn't seem to have any urgency (at least outwardly) about finding a new coach at this time.

Three candidates for the head Montana State volleyball coaching vacancy have accepted offers for on-campus interviews, announced Bobcat Athletics Director Peter Fields. The three candidates are Hannah Long, head coach at Southwestern University, Todd Nelson, assistant coach at Denver University and Kyle Weindel, assistant coach at Ohio University.

“We had an outstanding pool of applicants with a vast array of experience,” Fields said. “The volleyball committee spent countless hours conducting phone interviews and reference checks. In the end, these three individuals, all with outstanding credentials, moved to the top of the list and we look forward to having them on campus and in front of our many different constituencies.”
