He wanted faster training partners. There are a number of good distance runners switching schools, the latest thing.

So I take it he doesn't have to sit out a year like football and bball players would?

Track is a different animal. for one, you can redshirt up to three times as a runner (XC, outdoor, indoor). Secondly, no, he does not have to sit out a year. Noy 100 percent sure why, but I've seen it happen before as kids from Big 12 transferred to Western Athletic Conference. There might be penalties if one wants to transfer inside a conference, but usually all it takes is a scholarship release and an open scholarship at another school. Oklahoma has Casey and another kid coming in from Maine who is doing the same thing.

Disappointing. To say the least. What a letdown.

Its a bummer, but its certainly understandable. Track is pretty different from team sports like football and basketball.

I can' really blame the young man. He's accomplished alot at MSU, and the rest is just icing. He's aspiring to a higher goal, and needs to do what he can to achieve that. Best of luck to Patrick, and here's to hoping we get to watch him run in the Olympics!

Congrats to Casey and best of luck. This takes nothing away from what he accomplished at MSU. He has done a great job representin this university.

Good decision by MSU coaches to support him in his goals for the olympics. It will be interesting to see how he does with the increased competition. Sounds like Oklahoma has some really strong runners there.
