It may not have been as fast as the Livingston, Mont. native would have liked but a record is a record. Heather Haug competed at the Husky Classic, hosted by Washington in Seattle on Saturday. (Results)

The meet, featuring several elite athletes gave Haug an opportunity to compete against some of the top competitors from school such as Oregon and Florida State. Haug finished in 16th place overall in a field of 24, in the Invitational Mile with a time of 4:39.87. Her time marks a lifetime best and marks a new program record. The senior pillar of the Bobcat distance runners set a new record back on Jan. 18 with a time of 4:42.70.

"I was hoping to go a little faster but it was a pretty aggressive race," said Haug. "I got boxed in for most of the run and had to weave around to try to fight my way back to the front."

Despite the tough race, Haug should move up the national descending order list in the mile, where she currently ranks 28th. Her utlimate goal, in her final season of competition, is to participate in the NCAA Division I Championships.

Haug also set a program record in the 800 on Jan. 25.

Heather Haug and the rest of the Bobcats return to action on Friday, Feb. 15, at the Bobcat Open. The meet stands as a final opportunity to earn automatic marks for the Big Sky Championships which will take place on MSU's home turf, Feb. 21-23 in Brick Breeden Fieldhouse.
