The Bobcat Nation

I noticed a few posts out there coming from the state of Washington. I'm fairly new to the area... are there any Bobcat clubs or meetings this side of the Cascades? How about access to any of the FB games on TV?

I'll take a shot at this. As far as I know there's not much going on in the greater Seattle area. A few years back Athletic Director Fields, Josh, Mick and Coach Kramer hosted a reception at the WAC. The turn-out was....disappointing. The Cat-griz football game used to be on Fox in our market. This went away a couple of seasons ago, but there are game day functions at a couple of local taverns. The Alumni Association does try to do something annually. Later this month there is a Bobcat function at Safeco Field. Contact the Alumni office ASAP if you want tickets. The Cats play Washington State at the Key in December. There used to be a Montana Day picnic in the park, but when beer was banned in public places the event terminated immediately.
The best thing you have going for you in terms of what's happening, both real and imagined, is BobcatNation.
Having said all that, there may be a raging Bobcat Club presence around here with parties, poker, dancing, dining, girls, trips, tickets, shopping, seminars, excursions, swinging and swapping...I just never get invited.

Sounds like there might be a good opportunity for some motivated people to start up a Bobcat Club of sorts in the Seattle area. I know there are thousands of MSU grads out there, so maybe they just need a leader to rally them. Anyone would be able to get an email list of grads in the area from the Alumni Association, and you could find a bar that could carry the games and maybe make it into a "Bobcat Bar." Somebody has to be the one to get the ball rolling.

That said, I know it's easier said than done, and I know that everyone already has a lot on their plate. But if someone had the time and passion, it could really turn into pretty cool thing.

The Cat/Griz FB game has always been on at the Spot Tavern in Renton since I've been out here ('85). Never been since the Spot used to be really smokey. Thanks to the smoking ban it's cleaned up and I might attend this year! What is now FSN used to carry some Big Sky games but not any more.

Sluggers in Kirkland has become something of a "Griz bar" over the years (they have Griz banners, posters, signs, etc) because a number of us watch every Griz game there on satellite. We have anywhere from 50-150 people there every Saturday morning (generally averaging about 65/week), and they love us, because we're there during what would normally be a fairly slow time for them (kickoff is at noon or 11:00 PST for most games). I'm certain you could do something similar with Cat fans. Large numbers speak volumes with sports bars. Getting the word out and spread is the difficult part.

Is there anywhere in Spokane that the KSU-MSU game will be aired?

So I called Sluggers and the guy that answered hurriedly assured me they play Montana State games every weekend. Even after I emphasized "state". Anybody close enough to this place that can check it out. I'd hate to drive 2 hours and have to watch a Griz game.

Fish, there are occasionally MSU games on there, but generally only when the game is televised on a network that can be picked up on DirectTV or DishNetwork. For example, the KSU/MSU game was shown at Sluggers. But I've never seen them use the satellite to get a cat game (other than the Brawl, of course). I think they only have the capability to pull in one game, and you'd have a riot of 80 Griz fans if they pulled in the cat game instead.

I would not recommend you go to Sluggers unless you know the game can be viewed from one of the primary dish networks.

Or come up next time the Griz play and the Cats don't. Both groups actually mingle quite well at Sluggers believe it or not!
