Newest little Bobcat

I am very excited to introduce Kai Gerald Wong Bergum, the newest little Bobcat fan (I'm sure he'll have his own Bobcatnation.com username any day now). He was born November 26 at 7:22 pm, after 38 hours of labor (culminating with a c section).

I have a newfound respect for mothers that I couldn't have imagined before. Guys, I now totally understand why people say that we can never count our blessings enough for being given the easy jobs in the biological cycle as well as for finding women that are willing to do the hard work for us!

Both baby and mom are doing great.

38 hours? Good Grief! My cousin's first was just about as long before they decided to do a C-Section. I dunno why doctors just can't get out the scalpel after like 6 and say "we're goin' in!"

We had a doula in our camp ... and they are the ones who go to great lengths to make sure that doctors don't do just that. The whole natural child birth thing was the ideal vision of my wife going in ... but that vision was pretty much destroyed over and over and over by a less-than-ideal reality (I am much more enthusiastic about modern medicine and it's role in the birthing process than my wife and our doula -- or any doula, in case it wasn't already obvious  ).

In retrospect, knowing what we know now, your suggestion would have been the best answer, though.

Congrats again Brad. Is everyone home and settled in?

You may get the easy job in the biological cycle but the trade in is never getting to feel that life growing inside you, it makes the pain tolerable.

Congrats Brad. All 3 of our kids came via c-section; the first was an emergency, second wasn't really a choice either and, after two previous, the OB said no choice for the third. My wife's a believer in modern medicine, too! Congrats daddy!

Congrats BAC and BAC's wife!!! 36 hours, wow. I smile at your new-found appreciation for your woman & her experience! Our first was 24 hours and frought with scary moments like "we can't find any blood pressure." What a relief to just get through it with a healthy mom & baby! Maybe next time you'll schedule a c-section?

We wish you health, joy, and love with your new addition. =D^

Children are the only cure for narcissism. :D

(My wife and I were just laughing at ourselves last month on our 10-year that we seriously had many late night conversations about whether to start a family at all, what with world overpopulation and all, our desire to see the world, etc. etc. Now with 3 boys lighting up our every day, testing all our character limits, and keeping us 10 times busier than we'd ever been, we've found the statement above to be true of us, and simply cannot imagine life any differently.)
