After 4+ years of living down south in Atlanta, my wife and I have finally made the move back home...to the Northwest! It's something we've been trying to do for a couple years now, so we rented out our house, packed up our stuff and drove back here. It's been great to be back home, but I've had a hell of a time trying to find a job.

So I'm trying to find out if any of my fellow Cats knew of any job openings (or businesses owned/run by a Cat) in the Seattle area? I've got a few years of management experience now to go along with my hard-earned degree from the MSU College of Business. Good luck!! I was talking to a good friend who moved to the Seattle area about 10 years ago and was doing very well until the economy went in the toilet. He's down to 20-24 hrs./ wk. and says it's really depressing there- he's looking at options elsewhere, but it doesn't appear that things are much different nationwide so he'll probably just ride it out.

I think its far from depressing here, I love it here. The job market is tough, but that is to be expected anywhere. There's jobs out there, it just seems to be all about "who you know."

To clarify, he only meant depressing from the current economic standpoint, he actually loves the area and I have other friends who have moved there as well and they love the area. I've visited many times and like the area as well, but don't know if I'd want to live there. I like to visit big cities but don't care to be part of one and I think the weather would get depressing- I'll take below zero temps with blue sky and sunshine bouncing off fresh snow any day over day after day of rain and gloom. I love the Flathead area but wouldn't live there for the same reason, their winters suck.

I can understand that, and like any native from any area, it's good to hear that others don't want to move here. The weather's not an issue for me. If it was "rain and gloom" everyday, like it's perceived, it might be one. I was born and raised here, lived in Bozeman for over 5 years, and lived in the hot-n-humid south for over 4 years. All of them have their good and bad whether points.

The weather in Seattle is no where near as bad as people make it out to be. Seattle is a brilliant, beautiful city that has so much more to offer than just good weather. I'm happy for you ctsmith84.

Seattle is truly one of the greatest cities in the world.

That said, the weather here is not good. It's not so much the rain -- it rains more in many large cities in the US than it does Seattle -- although the rain can become tiresome as well. What bothers me the most after living here for years is the perpetural gray, and the cold summer evenings. No doubt there is no more beautiful place in the world on those rare 80 degree Seattle summer days. But try having a BBQ out on your deck that very same evening and by 7:30 pm, people are running for their sweatshirts.

Yep, that's why I had to leave. I need sunshine once in awhile, not just during the summer.
