Just found out my wife has a type of melanoma. Anyone know anything about skin cancers. She's freaking out right now, and I haven't been able to talk to her doc yet.

Obviously I don't know types or the extent of your wife's condition, but my dad has had a number of cancerous growths removed over the years. He' s been one of those shirt-off-while-working-in-the-yard kind of guy his whole life, which I'm sure has contributed. The first time was pretty scary, just hearing the c-word, but in his experience they continue to be isolated occurances. He usually at least every couple years has a "suspicious" mole or growth during his check ups. Biopsy and an out-patient surgery to remove it, stitches and a followup to remove them. Like I said, your experience may vary, but so far its still been cancer, but not terribly serious. I hope you and your wife's experience are similarly minor.
