campus parking tickets

I couldn't make the game last weekend, and gave my tickets and Bobcat Club premium parking pass to a friend.
He was late getting to the game, hasn't been on campus or to a game in 13 years and tried to park in the premium lot and ended up parking under one of those "No parking past this point" signs. He got a ticket for $45. He knows he was at fault, and was just late and made a mistake.
I told him not to pay it and throw it away, he probably won't be back in the near future. Does anyone know if the campus tickets get turned into the state and would show up as unpaid if another law enforcement agency did a check?
He also said his car and others around his that also received tickets were wrote on with white markers, the kind car lots use and it washed off, but had comments like "how do you like that, bitches", and "how dumb are you?" Although he didn't see who wrote it, only the cars past the sign that had tickets were wrote on. Pretty poor exhibit by parking lot attendants, especially to new prospective fans. I feel a little embarrassed.

So, you told someone, that was in the wrong, and was too lazy to park where it was legal, to throw the ticket away. I'm having a hard time understanding the reasoning.

I'm not sure if they turn it in to the state, but I'm pretty certain they turn it in to a collection agency that charges additional fees and could potentially damage his credit.

Also, are you pretty certain that the parking lot attendants were the ones who wrote on the cars? If so, that might give your friend a little leverage when asking about the ticket...especially if he took pictures. If that's the case, I'd probably fill out an appeal form online saying he didn't see the sign, it was his first time in Bozeman in x number of years, and that he parked next to other cars. Also include a picture of what was written on the car (assuming it was a lot attendant who wrote it).

My friend did not see the attendant write on the vehicles. He just said all of the other cars near him that also received tickets were wrote on with comments and others were upset as well. He said when he pulled in, the attendant said the lot was full and gave him some attitude when he asked to look around.
And no, parking tickets aren't a revenue source for the university. I guess I sound like an idiot, but years ago I parked on campus in August before school started with miles of open spaces to run to the book store and got a ticket. I ignored it, and when I have been pulled over for speeding it has never come up when they do a warrant check, I have never had that ticket turned into collection, or had my state refund attached for unpaid money to the state.
My main complaint was how this can turn off a fan from future involvement, and after trying to get to come to some games I am embarrassed his car was wrote on. And as someone who travels to the games with little children like he was, I can empathize with being late and wanting to get into the game. He knows he parked in the wrong area, and I just wanted to know if anyone has chose to ignore a campus parking ticket. There were a few others after the game that were upset that their cars were wrote on and I was wondering if anyone else saw this or heard this weekend. Not a big deal one way or the other, $45 isn't going to ruin anyone.

So I guess here's my perspective (I assume you're still looking for that)...

Getting your car written on sucks. Even though it washes off, you still feel violated. It's vandalism...I get that. Totally uncalled for action, by whoever did it.

As for the ticket...He knew he was taking a gamble parking in a no parking area. Similarly he has the option of pressing his luck and essentially doubling down that nothing will become of it if he just ignores the ticket. There's nothing wrong with gambling (everyone does it), he just can't be pissed if he loses. That's the rule when you gamble.

Hopefully he'll dust himself off and get right back on the MSU football bandwagon, as more often than not, the gametime experiences are awesome.

Good luck to you and your friend.

pretty funny though. the lot attendant tells him it's full. he asks to look around anyway. upon not finding any spots as the attendant told him would be the case, he parks illegally. my guess is the attendant was annoyed that the friend chose to look anyway, and knew that if the friend parked it would be done so in a non-parking space. you know...because that is all there was. probably watched the friend walk away and called HIS friends that give out tickets.

sucks to have cars written on though.
