ESPN just lost me.

Post by El_Gato » Mon Nov 07, 2005 8:37 am

They are now so full of themselves that they actually have a bunch of their people conducting a SIMULATED Boston Red Sox press conference. I'm not kidding; they have Steve Phillips playing a fictional Red Sox GM and some of their REAL reporters are jumping up & down, ACTING as if they're conducting a REAL press conference.

My God. Do they really think this kind of CRAP is going to keep/increase their audience? When did it become bad or wrong to just have a couple of baseball journalists discussing the various issues facing the Red Sox (or any other team)?

Some of these ESPN clowns are so desperate to be media "stars" that now they have to use SKITS to give us our sports news?

IMO, the only TRUE sports channel continues to sink to new lows every week, but this farce takes the case.

I actually think they're neat in an odd sort of way. Since Steve Phillips is a former GM (NY Mets), I think he brings a unique perspective to the baseball off-season.

You forgot to mention he is the worst GM in the history of baseball.

Mo Vaughn??? if he were still there he'd probably be going after Frank Thomas this offseason.

Well, if he was Theo Epstein, he would still have his GM job. Oh, wait...

I have the feeling that ESPN isn't going to stop this for a while. They've done the Yankees, Red Sox, Cubs, Astros, and Dodgers so far, and I bet they have plans for more. At least they'll stop at 30.

I saw the one last night and thought it was soooooooooo boring. Honestly, Sports Center is getting worse. There are more commercials and fewer highlights.

How could this network stray so far from what originally made them so popular?

If I want to be "entertained", there are about 60 other channels for me to select from. When I tune in ESPN, I want/expect to see scores, highlights, analysis, and commentary, NOT a bunch of folks who think they're stand-up comedians or actors.

I will not be surprised at all to see a new network sometime soon that will get back to pure sports, not "sports entertainment".

This is why I watch Cold Pizza on ESPN 2 in the Morning and ESPNews in the evening. THey have lost me, especially this week....is there anything happening that doesn't involve TO?? Those mock press conferences are so lame...next thing you know they will have mock football games played by actors before the real game.

Their parent company--ABC--already does for the Super Bowl, in conjunction with EA Sports. Every year--at last check, anyway--they have a PS2 simulate the Super Bowl, and see what the difference is between the real game and the PS2...

Right, I think that is ok. The PS2 or Xbox simulation is something that is interesting. I am thinking of a really lame attempt with real actors playing a "mock" game. At the rate they are going, it is just a matter of time!

Well, ESPN did the last of the simulated press conferences. I hope that's it; they really should not try simulated football games.

I was laughing my ass off when I saw all the mock reporters jumping up and down and all of the camera bulbs flashing, etc.

That was probably the worst thing I've ever seen on ESPN...
