No, I'll have to check it out. Thanks! I tend to agree with you...I even bought some organic things the other day :?
Just wanted to point out the large misconception that organic foods are healthier. Not always the case. In fact, many plants that don't have chemicals (pesticides, herbicides, etc) put on them will produce their own toxins to protect themselves that are more likely to make a human sick than any chemicals would. Just some food for thought.
I hadn't thought of that angle. It's so very confusing!

The book I linked at the beginning does have a list of the "dirty dozen" and the "clean 15" - those being the twelve fruits and vegetables that have been found to be the most contaminated and the fifteen cleanest.

I'm now on an all fat diet, or as close as I can come to eating 100% fat. It's actually not as easy as it sounds.

I don't eat fast food, but foods high in animal fat like bacon, vitamin D milk, cheese, and ground beef. Nuts and seeds have a lot of fat, and I do eat those too.

My current fat intake is about 60% of my calories and the rest is split between carbs and protein. This has definitely been an eye opening experience and I have to say I've learned a lot.

That ketogenic thing is tough, I tried it for a week and almost died. I am now writing a book on a diet consisting of only slim jims and vodka. I am hoping for a best seller and for it to become the latest fad.

I forgot to mention I get more carbs from fruit than from starchy foods. That was an eye opener for me.

As far as starchy foods go, I just cain't give up hash browns even though that's where a lot of sugar is. I've also discovered that frying hash browns in beef drippings is a slice of heaven on earth. Anything I cook in a pan now is cooked in lard or beef drippings. I'm finding it's not easy to find beef tallow for sale anywhere.

My all-fat diet was driven by a better understanding of evolution. Australopithecus, the first ape to walk upright, is what is generally considered the first human. They started walking upright 3.2 million years ago. Walking upright conserved energy, which allowed their brains to develop quicker. That led to building tools and hunting. Once we became hunters, human development took off.

If you condense that 3.2 million years into one year, one day is the equivalent of almost 8,800 years. So we've been eating meat for the better part of 3.2 million years and learned agriculture in only the last 4,000 years, or in the last 12 hours in the grand scheme of evolution.

Pretty sure that means there's no harm in eating animal fat. My diet now consists of all the fat I can eat and raw fruit.

Believe it or not, I have not gained any weight. I've actually lost weight, even though I don't have a scale. I bought some jeans at Christmas time and instead of trying them on I just grabbed a pair off the rack in the size I know (or I thought I knew) fit me. I got home and put them on and could barely zip them up they were so tight. Since then, they not only fit comfortably but I'm right at the point where I may need a belt to keep them from falling down.

Come on Billings Griz, I know you would love the all fat diet.

Cledus have you altered your drinking habits to avoid carbs too? No beer? No wheat vodka, etc?

I have some friends doing the Paleo/ Primal thing, and they're only drinking wine these days...

I cut back on drinking a long time ago. I don't have a problem with alcohol or any DUI's or anything like that. I don't have cable tv service and since I don't watch much sports anymore (unless I go to a smokey bar) drinking just doesn't have the same appeal unless I'm in a social setting. Every now and then I'll pick up a bottle of wine and make it last a few days.

I get drunk on vitamin D milk!

Stumbled across this interesting article. Apparently a diet extremely high in fat can help repair kidney damage from diabetes.

Wow. I guess in some instances it's good.

On the note of diabetes, I have a strong family history of Type II and none of them were more than mildly overweight AND I've already had fasting glucose levels in the pre-diabetic range. So I've done some research. They are finding that gluten intolerance is a major contributor to Type II diabetes. Which does make sense for my family as we have several of the other problems (bad stomachs, skin problems, chronic sinus issues). Since I've minimized gluten my glucose levels have dropped back down. I also noticed my hemoglobin levels have been much higher when I donate blood and I used to have a 50% chance of being high enough to donate (iron deficiency being another symptom of gluten intolerance).
