Sure, I guess somebody could. But there are certain customs and courtesies we observe. They could also show mourning by wearing a Hawaiian shirt to a funeral or show respect by saying "What's up, dude?" next time they pass their boss in the hallway.Bay Area Cat wrote:Which I guess leads us to the obvious question ... can a person honor the symbolism of the flag in ways beyond standing there in stone-silence? It seems to me that singing the anthem is actually a bit more of a proactive observance of one's respect for the flag than merely standing there, but to each his own. It seems like those who wanted to sign could sing and those who preferred to just listen in silence could do that, and everybody wins!
This is how the national anthem should be done!

Abd I always have to tell some jack wagon to remove their hat when the it is going on. Now I sound like a fuddy duddy and I am only 44. Must be from my days in the Army.
Just for clarification, you're not the fuddy dud. As you put it, the jackwagons are playing grab ass with their girlfriend, not paying attention, not removing his hat during the anthem. The fuddy duds are those that just sit in their seat no matter what is happening. Geez guys try and keep up with the lingo.
