Like AG, I learned that one can live on a lot less than they think they need when the calories used correctly! I never leave the house in the morning without some fruit, veggies, and a protein.

Ugh, it's my 9 yo's favorite place. I groan every time we take him there. It's not just the fat and calories, they use WAY TOO much salt too!!WeedKillinCat wrote:I used to like to eat at the Olive Garden but after reading the calorie count I don't go as often as I'd like. Re: Morning Workouts
Wow alpha, that is impressive. I would have a hard time functioning on 1500 calories a day and I am not as big as you. You must be quite disciplined about the quality of your calories.AlphaGriz1 wrote:Oh I agree with you, it depends on what you are trying to accomplish for me its losing my subtle buttery exterior and replacing it with lean mass. Lots of protein and low sugar intake. I have cut out soda and lots of processed foods with lots of sugar in them as well.
I want to get down to the weight I have selected then increase the calories while still working out to keep the weight off. Lots and lots of miles on the mountain bike this summer......going to try and get in 100-125 miles per week.
I think working out first thing in the morning is a bad idea. Generally your blood sugar is lower and it is harder to function with high intensity. At least that’s my experience.
I like working out two or sometimes three times a week and I function best at 3000 calories to maintain a high intensity. Try twenty rep squats twice a week and five to eight 45 second hard intervals a couple times a week. Your metabolism will be in high gear and if you eat less than 3000 calories a day you will loose weight. I am ~200lbs and loosing almost a half pound a week.

Re: Morning Workouts
Diet is my biggest failing as well. I think it really started to matter when I hit my 40's. Used to be I could ride a few more miles and burn it off, but now-a-days it doesn't go away quite as fast. I'm a sucker for McDonalds fries and my wife keeps bringing those $%#@ Alberstons chocolate chip cookies home.
Two morning runs in a row now. Hasn't killed me yet. As I type this at 6 PM it is a nice feeling knowing I'm done and don't have to go workout.

Re: Morning Workouts
Just skimmed through those links Gary and I think the consensus is WHENEVER YOU WILL GO.
In your opinion or experience is there any pro or con to different times? My week has been Monday 5:30 AM run and noon weight class, Tuesday and Wednesday 6:45 PM Zumba (I teach so can't change those), Thursday 11 AM run, and Friday noon weight class. All over the map and that's my typical - just do it whenever I can. But would I be better off to commit to more mornings on the days I don't teach and get into more of a pattern?

Re: Morning Workouts
Your right!! WHENEVER YOU WILL GO! The main thing is to go, and you know how easy it is for most people to find an excuse not to work out. The only recommendation I have is to try and not mix weight lifting days with running days and if you do do the weights first. One thing many people don't realize is that when you run you burn calroies while you are running. When you lift weights (assuming you lift hard (high intensity)) you burn calories for several days.ChiOCat wrote:Just skimmed through those links Gary and I think the consensus is WHENEVER YOU WILL GO.

Re: Morning Workouts
I know, but I struggle to get both running and weights in, so some days they both happen. I ate well between to make sure I was ready for weights. I do BodyPump, so lighter weight multiple reps. And I know.....most "real" lifters mock Pump. But it's more than I ever did on my own. Lifting is not my thing, so for me it's great and I try to go 3xweek so I get a good amount of weight training.gtapp wrote:Your right!! WHENEVER YOU WILL GO! Re: Morning Workouts
As long as your intensity is high it doesn't really matter how heavy or how many sets you do unless your goal is power lifting or body building. Just as long as you push yourself you should get good results!ChiOCat wrote:I know, but I struggle to get both running and weights in, so some days they both happen. Well done, Alpha! I've dropped 22 lbs since January. I started out at 230 and am doing my damndest to keep dropping. I'm excited to eventually be below 200 lbs for the first time since god knows when!

Good job guys!
Belgrade - are you still getting morning workouts? We've been going about 2-3 mornings a week still. It's easier for me when it's not every morning.
