And to get back on topic, I completely support this team because we should be excited that we are Americans and if these kids want to chant "USA" we shouldn't condone it.
If the shoe was on the other foot here, and the other team started chanting "Mexico" or "Japan" or whatever, would we as American citizens have caused this much of an uproar? I highly doubt it.
People are trying to make this a stupid racial issue that's interlaced with way too much political correctness.

Re: Can't chant "USA" anymore
If the other team was from Mexico or Japan then yeah, chanting "USA" would be perfectly acceptable. But when both teams are American it either makes no sense or there are racial overtones.TIrwin24 wrote:And to get back on topic, I completely support this team because we should be excited that we are Americans and if these kids want to chant "USA" we shouldn't condone it.

had the opposing team actually been from another country (and not just "looked" like they are from another country) than a USA chant would be appropriate. this is why there is never an outrage during the olympics when we chant USA.TIrwin24 wrote:And to get back on topic, I completely support this team because we should be excited that we are Americans and if these kids want to chant "USA" we shouldn't condone it.

however....when two AMERICAN schools face one another, and one of them is rich and mainly white....and the other is poor and mainly hispanic....yet they are ALL americans.....it seems to be bad taste for the white americans to chant USA. it was meant as a slam and everyone around the situation knew it and ended it. it is also why this school doesn't chant USA after all of their wins....at least to my knowledge.

beat me to it. it's fairly obvious and i think TI is just doing his best alpha impression. kind of fun at times i'll admit.tampa_griz wrote:If the other team was from Mexico or Japan then yeah, chanting "USA" would be perfectly acceptable. Are you just pretending to not understand the pretty obvious concept at play here? Seriously?TIrwin24 wrote:And to get back on topic, I completely support this team because we should be excited that we are Americans and if these kids want to chant "USA" we shouldn't condone it.

If you think these kids were chanting that because "they were excited that we are Americans," you are incredibly naive.
This is a racial issue because the motivations for the kids to do this chant were racial. There was no other rational reason why they would be using that chant against another American team.
If you were playing a game against someone in your company with a far better title than you who was Hispanic, would you mock him/her with a "USA! USA!" chant after you beat him/her? Or would it perhaps dawn on you that such a thing just might be a quick trip to unemployment (and a likely stain on your professional reputation forever) for you?

Re: Can't chant "USA" anymore
Look, I get that there's "racial" undertones to the whole chant. I get it. And it doesn't bother me because it's something so insignificant that it's ridiculous that it is even news.
However, I'm looking at the bigger picture here. The media is hyping up this stupid thing because it is anti-PC in their minds.
Do you guys honestly think we would have heard about this on any legitimate news source if it had been the other way around. I certainly don't think so.

Oh, I see. You "get" that what the kids did was an explicit manifestation of racism, and you "get" that their intent had nothing to do with patriotism or pride of any kind, but you are endorsing what they did because of the "I'm white, so I'm a victim in our anti-white society" mindset that you want to champion.

I don't understand how you can just sit there and accept the racial bias that goes on in our media today.
It's a bunch of crap if you ask me. But that's ok BAC, you just keep on your merry way playing to the garbage that our leftist, PC-laden media spews.

My response to this is the same response I have to griz fans who play the victim card saying the Missoulian is out to get their players.TIrwin24 wrote:I don't understand how you can just sit there and accept the racial bias that goes on in our media today.

Are you serious? Do you honestly think being white and upperclass is a hindrance to upward mobility?TIrwin24 wrote:I don't understand how you can just sit there and accept the racial bias that goes on in our media today.

What the students did was wrong. They have no idea what the immigration status is of the players from the other team. "American" doesn't mean "white". What they did was mean, ignorant, and racist. And that's OK....they're young kids and prone to doing stupid things. That's why we have parents, administrators, and the media to step in and correct ignorant and mean behavior.

Re: Can't chant "USA" anymore
So you take a scenario which no non-racist person in America would condone, and then proceed to condone it and justify it by claiming that the only reason it's in the news is because of anti-white bias in the media?TIrwin24 wrote:I don't understand how you can just sit there and accept the racial bias that goes on in our media today.

Do you have any idea how illogical that sounds?
If you want to claim that it's not news-worthy, go for it. At least that is a defensible position. But what these students did is not justified in any way, shape or form, and has nothing to do with how it was covered in the press. At the very least, any sane, non-racist person would condemn what they did (just as the adults in their own school/community did), even if they don't think it's news-worthy.
I get Alpha -- he says things to rile people up and to start conversations, but you seem to actually BELIEVE what you are saying and you are saying it under your real name as opposed to an anonymous satirical handle.

Too much goofiness on eGriz. I'm pretty sure we can blame our President (who, by the way, is Kenyan and smokes cigarettes) for this.
I work as an attorney so that I can afford good scotch, which helps me to forget that I work as an attorney.

I agree with TI.
So insignificant its not even news. Its a good thing TI was around to post a few solid nuggets in this thread and one up the other dolts that buy into the PC spewed by the left wing media.
