Burns vrs Tester

I bet the advertising companies just love this kind of campaign. Although I don't know of many consumers who can stand most of the political ads themselves. Yet it must still work, or people wouldn't spend the money on it.

I'm just dying to see how the gay marriage and flag burning votes go!

The race isn't even a day old and Burns is stumbling. In a perfect world that question by Burns would be enough to cause a landslide for Tester.
Most republicans I talked to wanted Morrison to win, because they figured Burns could neutralize the ethical issue and win. In other words they were saying, if we can find an opponent, not an unethical one, but one more unethical than our guy, we can win! Yay!!!
Tester should've fired back at Burns and asked if he going to continue to take money from crooks, because -- afterall -- Montanans deserve to know.

How do you know Tester hasn't taken money from a "crook". In fact, how does Tester know he hasn't taken money from a "crook". Does Tester run a background check on every donor he takes money from?

When Conrad took money from Abramoff (all legally I might add) I don't know whether Abramoff was a nice guy or not, but he was not a "crook". Abramoff only became a "crook" (i.e., convicted felon) within the past few months - well past when Conrad received his donations.

Plus the conspiracy theorist in me thinks if you spend a lot of money buying ads the media is less likely to run unflattering stories about you.

Most of the negative articles about Burns seemed to stop when Burns started running ads this spring. Coincidence?

Not being ignorant, just factual (unless you know something I don't - like Abramoff had a prior conviction at the time donations were given).

As I've said in really long posts on other threads - the whole question here (and what I think you're referring to) is whether the donations were tied to a particular action that Conrad or his staff undertook. That "quid pro quo" is what is being investigated. If that is the case, then something needs to be done...until then, it is still an unproven accusation.

If all it takes to sink a candidate or campaign these days is to have a "crook" donate to that candidate, then that opens all kinds of doors that I don't think we want to get into (in other words, campaign dirty tricks of having "crooks" donate to the other candidate's campaigns and then accusing them of being dirty).

There is a fine line between being known by the company you keep, and being responsible for that companies actions. Using the logic that I am criticizing, should MSU have known that O'Brien was going to commit a drug crime and thus shouldn't have hired him in the first place. Or should UM have known that several of their FB players were going to go to a bar and beat up another athlete (allegedly), and thus should not have recruited them in the first place. What should MSU or UM do about money that was donated to their foundations by people who later commit crimes?

I know that I have hung around "the bad crowd" before. In fact, most of the time I think that I am "the bad crowd" that others refer to.

But I don't think that you, or any of my friends or acquaintences, should be held accountable for my actions, unless you participated in them - and that is the question that has not been answered.

Okay, to clarify some of this; John Tester taught music to the original drummer and eventual guitarist for Pearl Jam, Jeff Ament. Who says teachers, coaches and administrators in public schools can't make a difference in their students lives and perhaps this is the main reason I'm such a fan of what Tester is doing...plus, although I'm not a big fan of Pearl Jam, I like seeing their success. Anyway, call all your buds from Big Sandy if you've still got any questions...I just did

Was Jeff a senior when I was a freshman? I guess it is possible. We played Big Sandy the opening weekend ... my first ever varsity action ... and we did lose.

His younger brother stayed at our house the following year when we hosted Big Sandy, Box Elder and Centerville in a tournament (and outside of knowing we lost to Box Elder, I can't remember who won any games), and I ended up seeing him quite a bit throughout high school and our first year at MSU.

But if Jeff was playing my freshman year, I may need to re-evaluate my feelings towards PJ. I didn't know I had any reason to hold a grudge until just now.

So were you pulling that out of your arse, or did you actually know that we lost to Big Sandy my freshman year? If the latter, that's scary knowledge retention. If the former, that's scary coincidental.

Harry Reid has actually voted in favor of an Abramoff client days after receiving a donation. Funny how this one missed the alphabet networks. Plus, The Oregonian has yet to print this article.

Reid Aided Abramoff Clients, Records Show

While Abramoff never directly donated to Reid, the lobbyist did instruct one tribe, the Coushattas, to send $5,000 to Reid's tax- exempt political group, the Searchlight Leadership Fund, in 2002. About the same time, Reid sent a letter to the Interior Department helpful to the tribe, records show.

Nationally this Abramoff story has fizzled out because of how many were involved, mostly in a legal manner. Odd that Tester would lead with it. It must be all he has to offer.
