Grizlaw,
If I ever open a restaurant, I'm having you in to sample and write up a review :) :)

That's funny, because one of my friends out here actually commented not long ago that I should have been a food critic. :) Eating good food is one of my favorite pastimes, and in my group of friends here in NY, I guess I'm kind of the guy everyone calls when they need restaurant advice...not sure if that's something to be proud of or not, but whatever.

I work as an attorney so that I can afford good scotch, which helps me to forget that I work as an attorney.

??

Sorry, I guess I'm a little slow, but I'm not seeing the link between liking good food and being a "fairy."

It's been a few years since I've been there so I don't remember what kind of steak they use, but it's something of a little higher quality than what you'd typically find in a cheesesteak. The other interesting thing about their sandwich is that they use cream cheese instead of regular cheese (the first time I ordered it, I asked the waitress to substitute real cheese -- she told me to try one with cream cheese, and said that if I didn't absolutely love it, she'd bring me one with real cheese. If you've never had a cheesesteak with cream cheese, try it sometime -- it sounds weird, but it's awesome.)
I went to Gandolfos the other day, and noticed they had a cream cheese cheesesteak. So I ordered, and I did not like it, but not because of the cream cheese. It was more like deli-cut roast beef than steak, had either BBQ sauce or steak sauce on it, green peppers and cream cheese. Not to mention it was not very hot at all, though the menu said it would be. It was a good sandwhich in its own right, but it didn't make for a very tasty cheesesteak.

Yeah, I'm not sure I could deal with having BBQ sauce or steak sauce on my cheesesteak. I guess it could be good, but it just doesn't seem right. Steak, cheese, onions, period. Peppers are fine, but I won't go out of my way to order them.

Although, there's a cheesesteak place right around the corner from my apartment here that makes a sandwich they call the "ultimate" cheesesteak, which is pretty tasty. Foot long, steak, onions, green peppers, jalepeno peppers, mushrooms, and choice of cheese (everyone orders with the traditional melted cheese sauce).

Now I'm hungry. :)

Why is it every single time I look at this topic it's somewhere around lunch time?

I just went from "snacky" to "ridiculously hungry" =P~

As far as I know, you can still get 50 cent sodas at Joes, but the proce of a Cheesesteak jumped fomr 4.95 last year to 5.55 this year :x :x ! Poor college kids like me notice things like that. :)
I used to work at Joes. I had to give up pop entirely when I worked there. We got it free as long as we brought out own cup.

But, you wouldn't believe how many beers I had bought for me that summer, it paid being a "Joe's Girl."
