Another Bobcat Bar Ruined!

Damn, don't know the next time I'll be in Bozeman, but I'll be sure to hit up Specs and tell them (to their face) what a great advertisement that was and that there was no need to apologize to a bunch of sissy, crybaby, grizzly fans without a sense of humor. For cripes sake people! griz fans have NOTHING better to do than call a BOZEMAN bar and berate innocent waitstaff and bartenders? If you really wanted to make a statement, you'd drive your sorry a$$es down to Bozeman and commandeer the bar for the night!

If the tables were turned and the Cats were playing Villanova tonight and the owner of Red's Bar in Missoula ran a similar ad in the Missoulian I'd laugh it off..............no big deal. I sure as hell wouldn't waste my nickel on a phone call to Reds.

Absolutely, I've had great times in Reds and several other griz bars in Fizzoula and enjoy a little friendly bantering with griz fans over a cold one. That's what it's all about.

Griz fans are in an up roar over an article that features a griz fan who just happened to graduate from Villanova who is going to (gasp) cheer on his Wildcats.

I was going to be cheering for the griz tonight, but after reading some of this stuff I am hoping for the Wildcats to maul them!

I actually agree that the ad is nothing to get upset about. I'm frankly amused by the whole thing -- both the fact that a bar has nothing better to do with its cash than to take an ad out against another Montana school who's playing an east coast school as well as the overreaction by some Griz fans. I think it's kind of sad that this is all you've got to do after Thanksgiving but I realize you've got to do something to occupy your time. Besides, I think a lot of little brothers have inferiority complexes about their big brothers who are a lot more successful and they're going to feel threatened by big brother's success. That's just human nature. I personally cheer for the Bobcats when they're playing anyone but the Griz because they're a Montana team but, hey, if that's what helps you sleep at night, it beats Ambien.

Been swimming in the Berkeley Pit a little too much? It's ingenious advertising because Spec's will be busier than normal with Cat and griz supporters. They'll more than make up for what they spent on those ads.

It's called "marketing." It's when a company invests money for advertising to promote an image that they feel will drive more revenue for their business within their target market (which in this case is Bozeman, and specifically primarily MSU fans).

It will probably pay off for them hundred-fold, so it was likely an excellent decision for their business.

I take it the rest of your post was just an effort to provide anecdotal evidence supporting those MSU fans who speak of their dislike of Griz fans as their reason for cheering against their rival school (if the fact that virtually all rival fans cheer against their rivals wasn't enough).

My point exactly. I think everyone's reaction to this is overblown. I'm just saying that psychologically speaking, it's easier for Griz fans to cheer for the Cats when they're playing somebody else than it is for Cat fans to cheer for the Griz when they're playing somebody else because Griz fans don't have the envy factor.

I do have to take offense at your suggestion that I won't be doing anything but sitting on my butt this weekend. I intend to get up and go to the fridge a number of times during the game. Not quickly mind you -- don't want to pull a hammy -- but I will be getting up.
