Golden Corral. Buffet of the Damned

So we made a day trip to Billings today. Though it wasn't my choice-the fam decided they wanted to go to Golden Corral for supper.
Yikes. I can see why this country has a serious health care crisis. There were a lot of strangely configured people in there...with heaping plates full.
I read a while back that
Gallatin County is the healthiest county in Montana. I think I discovered why. We don't have national chain buffet here.
Oh by the way-after about four trips back to the salad, chicken, seafood, meat, and dessert bar I felt much worse going out of that place than going in...but I got my money's worth.

There is a Pizza Hut buffet, 3 Chinese buffets, and... well that's all I can think of off the top of my head.

A few years ago we were in Minneapolis for my brother's wedding, and he dropped us off at one of those buffet places to eat while they ran some errands. My sister had been out almost the entire night before, and was a little punchy (and is a bit of a happy person to begin with). So after some rather awkward beginnings (we made the mistake of admitting we never ate there before, so we got a personal tour of the entire place from the manager), we get our food and sat down ... and started to look around.
A seemingly endless procession of people who were at least 400 pounds was walking past our table, each of whom was holding as many plates as they could (some managing to actually start eating while moving to their tables). My sister couldn't take it, and just giggled non-stop for about five minutes.
It was pretty funny.
The King's Table in Great Falls was always great after track meets back in high school, though ... especially since I was always too nervous to eat during the day and was starving by the end of the day (and "all the pop you can drink and ice cream you can eat" meant quite a bit more to me back then).

Ugh. My boys love it, when I was out of town last fall they begged daddy to take them because "it's the place mom hates the most here, shouldn't we go while she's gone?"

Yeah-I thought of those, but the national chain buffet is just on a whole different level.
I'm still full.
I think sometimes-too much of a good thing might be a bad thing.

Food hangovers are almost as bad as alcohol hangovers. And then there is the advanced stage food coma. Deadly.

We ate at the Golden Corral on Monday in Great Falls. We had been up there for the AAU State Folkstyle tournament the previous weekend. After spending a weekend in a gymnasium for a wrestling tournament and not eating and/or eating healthy, the Golden Corral was a welcome site. Sure you can eat terrible. But, you can also eat very healthy (big salad bar with spinach, steamed vegetables, fruit, etc.). And, for under $8 for an adult, it's pretty darn cheap.
It was perfect for our family that day as everyone was craving something different and GC had the answers for everyone.
