Best and Worst Posts of the Week from Will Holden's Podcast

OK Fans, you requested it and we will deliver. We'll post the best and worst posts from each PodCast here. In order to keep it easy to read, if you want to discuss any of these please start a different thread for discussion. That way this thread will just be a running tally of the "winners" each week.

And remember, you'll only get a little commentary here. Make sure to listen to the PodCast so you can enjoy the fun and heck, come down the the Bay and join us on Thursday nights. And lastly, this post won't be updated in the future until the Monday of the following week. That way if you want to know who the winners are you'll have to tune in to the PodCast to find out.

Preseason
Will had the opportunity for sport the avatar of shame before the Podcast even started thanks to this little gem in his article previewing the offensive line.

Also, in the same article Will gave MSU credit for having two RTs, but no LT on the line. Clearly, Will didn't lift enough in the off season and started out a little rusty!

Week 1 FORT LEWIS
Good Post of the Week - CelticCat won for two posts:

I believe that things with Kempt and McGhee will unfold similar to what happend at UM last year. I see both qb's playing until one separates himself like Selle did in the second half of the SDSU game last year. If the competition is so close, as it appears to be through spring and fall, splitting time could run late into the year. If one or the other falls on thier face, the decision becomes easy.

Couple of other points -

Ash is smart. I believe that he starts with Kempt and eases McGhee into the game. As someone posted earlier, if you start with McGhee and he does not produce, then you turn to a dejected senior who lost his starting position to come back and lead the team. Maybe Kempt has that in him but it would be difficult.

Kempt has experiance and I believe that is important. Not that McGhee couldn't rise up, but being there and having done "it" counts for something.

Lets not annoint McGhee the next Jesus (or any other religious figure - want to be PC here) or Lulay until he has a chance to play a little bit. Certainly the hope is that he becomes a Bobcat great but lets not put the cart before the horse.

Can't remember the last time the Cats had two solid options at quarterback.

So yours is more of a "sit down and sleep" kinda thing.

When my son was in the womb I use to put my head phones on my wifes belly and play the fight song now every time I play it my son smiles and starts clapping his hands.

That's funny because we have the same issue at my house. My wife and I sang Stand Up and Cheer to our son when she was pregnant with him. Now at night when we are in the car and he is cranky there is only one way to calm him and that is singing the fight song. It's fun and all until you have to sing it for 1/2 an hour before he falls asleep!

long story short, none of you dickwads have any clue what you are talking about when it comes to the cats, or football in general. and don't even get me started on business practices, politics, cars, motorcycles, home entertainment systems, gyms, high school sports, women, booze, bars, clothes, investments, lake houses, traveling destinations, or music preferences. these are all things i can assure you that i am more knowledgable about and you would look even stupider for even trying to comment. now please go ****** yourselves. better yet....just go run in front of traffic. clowns.

That's it, we can drop football which is 63 schollies and add 3 non-revenue sports with 50 schollies (look it up) and save the cost of 13 schollies, all the time bringing in 0 revenue and actually costing the school more than what the football team did. Cheese and rice.

The actual post wasn't so bad, but starting out a thread title "Kempt is BETTER" on the football board. REALLY? That is a good way to get a lot of people's blood boiling and not really fair to Cody who is a legit QB.

Week 4 EWash
Good Post of the Week - Blue and Gold

Blue and Gold got the award this week not only for this quality post, but for turning things around this week. The week started out messy due to a young journalist who I won't name Will Holden and his column that started off qute the fire storm. Thanks to Blue and Gold things turned around and we all started discussing what we should be talking about.....the next game!

I cannot remember a more important Big Sky conference opener for the Cats. Bobcat Fans...we have got to show up....we have got to make some noise...more noise then ever...If you do not understand the importance of this game, please stay home and let someone else use your ticket. I am proud of our team, lets make them proud of their fans!

Bad Post of the Week - Bobcat Sig

Bobcat Sig is sporting the avatar of shame after his "great" idea for Grosulak's new nickname. It could possibly be funny if drunk, and I know we will all laugh on Saturday when we see Grosulak make a big play, but REALLY? I mean, thanks for trying to come up with a nickname, but let's try harder!

His new nickname? Grocery Sack ... as in, "BOOM! You just got grocery sacked!!"

It was almost a year ago this week that Waded Cruzado accepted the top job at MSU.

Most including myself were very skeptical about how Waded would responsed and support athletics.

A year later, she has done more that the previous presidents have done in 25 years. I take my hat off to her, she is the real deal.

I don't know if coach hands out game balls after the game, but if we get a W on Saturday, I think Waded deserves this one.

Bad Post of the Week - Katmandu

Katmandu is now proudly rocking the avatar of shame after his complaints about Peter Fields in the thread he started title Hello...Peter???....Hello... With all the excitement happening around Bobcat Football these days I thought I was pretty lame and the same old tired thing of calling out the AD, but there wasn't really good reason to. It is a GREAT time to be a Bobcat and so I had to give Katmandu the avatar of shame for finding something to complain about at one of the best times we've had in a long time as Cat fans.

His post said:

Bad Post of the Week - Will Holden and Common Cat

Will and Common Cat shared the dUMb avatar of the week this week. They both got a little excited with the news that Jake Bleskin signed with the Cats and quickly flipped the names around about which brother plays for the Cat's already and which is a future Cat.

CMR quarterback and Jake Bleskin's brother commits to MSU. We got a good one here.

Will also screwed up the names in some way and even managed to bring Tanner Roderick's name into the confusion. But I believe Will has the power of the editing feature on his blog and has since corrected the mistake so I can't quote his error.

Week 8 Northern Colorado
Good Post of the Week - nevadacat

Well folks, it was a pretty rough week on the board following the NAU loss so there weren't that many great posts or anything to get to excited about, but Will thought the best was nevadacat's post for not only turning the board around and got them talking about something other then the loss, but also for the research and effort that went in to the post.

We all wait, with great anticipation, to see the polls and contest results each week. It's fun to see how we did as prognosticators in the two BN contests, and it's interesting (or aggravating) to see what others think of our boys and the rest of the BSC. With the loss to NAU this past weekend, there has been some banter on the board as to how the BSC will end up. I was wondering, how could the BSC look on November 20? Just for fun, I built a simple mathematical model to play out the rest of BSC season. What I need is a little more information to calibrate the model. I would be honored if BNers would assist me with this. Details on that in a moment.

I began with Jeff Sagarin's ratings because they are fairly well-respected and not prone to personal biases like polls are. One could use his ratings now, assuming things stayed stable, to predict the BSC finish (top 4, for brevity):
1. EWU 7-1
2. NAU 7-1
3. UM 6-2
4. MSU 6-2

Two things I don't like about this are (1) I think Sagarin's home field advantage of 3.5 points is too low for the BSC, and (2) it lacks a random element. To get a picture of randomness, see last weekend's upsets and close calls. For instance, if I set the home field advantage to what I think it is, the picture changes slightly:
1. NAU 7-1
2. UM 6-2
3. MSU 6-2
4. EWU 6-2

When I introduce an element of randomness, it's common for any of the four teams above to win the conference outright at 7-1, with the other three at 6-2 or 5-3. Less likely, but not unusual, cases had the conference winner at 6-2 with seven teams having 4 or more wins. I think that speaks well to the parity folks have been discussing.

But the model would be better using the collective wisdom of BN. If you would indulge me, I would appreciate answers to seven questions, each of which requires a single number. And if you think I'm all wet, I don't mind you saying so.

If 10 games were played right now between the teams below on a neutral field, how many would the team in bold win?
1) SSU vs EWU
2) NAU vs UM
3) UNC vs MSU
4) PSU vs WSU
5) MSU vs ISU
6) PSU vs SSU
7) On average, how many points is the home field advantage in the BSC?

Bad Post of the Week - mvwallace

A new poster with only four posts came out on "top" this week as the worst post of the week. If you want to hear the discussion on this one listen to the PodCast, but I have a question still lingering. Is this Mike Wallace from 60 minutes joining our board? Is this the pass catching Mike Wallace of the NFL? Or is this person's name not even Mike? That my friends is still TBD!

Anybody else think we need a new defensive coordinator?

With the talent that we have on defense shouldn't we be limiting our opponents to less yardage and points? We play a 4-3 and usually only rush 4 and drop 7 into coverage yet somehow the opposition always finds an open man for a short to medium gain. I would assume that when we have 7 players covering 3 or 4 receivers that the numbers would be in our favor but it hasn't been working that way. I know that we have one of the top ranked run defenses usually but when the other team can throw for over 300 yards on us then why would they bother running it.
