Apple dumps a chip manufacturer that's having problems creating faster chips and making chips for laptops in favor of the world's largest chip manufacturer who has the best technology for laptops and has a sour taste in their mouth from Microsoft (over the Xbox), and now Apple is going away?

The Mac OS has been developed for and running on x86 chips for over five years. This switch has been in the works for some time. With IBM beginning to move their focus away from computers and more towards server technology and gaming consoles, the time was right for Apple to make the switch away from IBM.

Apple says that the switch could cost some market share?

Ummmmm, that happened about 20 years ago when Steverino decided that a closed-source OS was the ticket...HELLO, MCFLY?

I hear ya on amd. Good chips at a good price. I built a computer based on the athlon and it's still kicking a$$ today, running the most intensive programs.

I do use a dell laptop, however...the intel chips tend to be a little more reliable, I think, in those situations. Plus, if something serious goes wrong, then the customer support is nice to have.

i had a couple of comps with intel chips and they never ran right and i belive one got recalled becuase it could not process math correctly...i have never had any trouble with my amd processors, my amd 64 3 gig processor kicks ass and i see using it for another 5 years
