Blackberry, Droid, iPhone?

Given the news that Verizon will now carry the iPhpne in Montana http://billingsgazette.com/business/art ... 03286.html, which is better, Droid, iPhone or Blackberry?

I've got a crackberry, but should have gotten a droid. Now I'm wondering if I'd like an iPhone.

Should I have posted this in "Discussing the Issues"?

If you want an iPhone, wait 6 months until the 4G version comes out for Verizon. Otherwise, get a phone with Android.

I've had an iPhone for about two years, and love it (aside from the fact that AT&T sucks). Now that Verizon is going to carry it, I can recommend it wholeheartedly, although I think longhorn probably has the right idea regarding waiting for the 4G version.

I've never used a Droid, though, so I can't say one is better than the other.

Why? I'm not a very techy person and my Blackberry does everything I think I need it to. What do the other two do that are better?

i'm also far from techy. had a blackberry and didn't care for it. in fact i think i have a drawer of 2 or three of them. i was speaking from personal experience. the few i had always had issues and i didn't care for them. i was able to get an iphone last spring and in the beginning it was sweet. despite sometimes poor connection and other small issues like that trying to use one in this area it was fine. it'll likely be even better now that verizon is in the mix. but for me the droid is the best in this area. i can't speak for anyone living anywhere else....and as i mentioned things will change with verizon being a player....but here in bozeman at this time i think the droid is the key.

I love BB.

I just got a temp Android phone until Alltel switches over to AT&T and I cant wait to get my BB back after the switch. Probably couldnt go wrong with an iPhone since everything Apple makes is great.

I'm in the same camp as you and Chio. I love my BB. It does everything I want it to. A few people I know have droids that don't do anymore (at least that they utilize) than my BB. It seems like all they ever talk about is app-killers because their battery's are always dead.

As far as I understand it, 4G is mostly a marketing ploy at this point, as none of the supposed 4G networks even come close to obtaining the technical definition of 4G speeds. And we are in Montana, who knows how long it'll be before we even get 4G of any kind.

Totally agree

4G is in theory supposed to optimally download 100Mbit/s for high mobility users and 1Gbit/s for stationary users. They are not even close to being able to make this work. (in the USA)

The alleged 3G stuff here in MT has trouble doing 56kbs and they still get to call it 3G. I dont know about Verizon but the equipment that AT&T is installing in Montana for the switch from Alltel isnt going to be anywhere near a true 3G network.

I agree with the poster above that says the BB can do almost anything the Droid/Android phones can do. Battery life is everything to me and my BB would last 2.5 days with the extended battery and normal use. My current HTC wont last 8 hours, its constantly on a charger and I cant wait to ditch it and get the BB Torch.

I don't know what 3G you're on but mine is nowhere near 56k. I haven't had any speed troubles. As far as battery life, yeah it sucks. Don't know why they can't get a good battery in the androids. I'll wait and see what happens in the next month or so.

What are you talking about 56k then? Of course I ****ing noted it. I read what you typed. What do you mean they have trouble hitting it? They are too slow? They are too fast? What? You do realize I live in Montana right?

Yep I totally agree. I have a BB as well and it will go 2.50 days and it will do almost everything the droids do (except for drain the battery fast). I wish the BB Torch was coming to Verizon? Does anyone know if Verizon is going to be getting that version? It looks sweet.

](*,) ok, chester needs help as well as he will be retiring his flip-phone (yes, his current phone is just a phone that also does texting... in other words it is one step above zach morris' cell phone).

he has read all the posts and his head hurts. he will be taken his companys service from sprint and will be heading to either ATT or Verizon within the next 2 weeks.

if he goes Verizon... does he take the free blackberry they offer him? pay for the marked down Droid? wait until feb for the iPhone or wait until summer for the new iPhone? (his laptop is a macbook pro and he has an ipod shuffle).
if he goes ATT... see above but the "free blackberry" is not an option.

seems like the battery life is great on the BB... how is it on the iPhone? mrs. spartanpot has a Droid and it always seems like her battery is zonking out.

also, he is totally unfamiliar with the iPhone... doubts he's even seen one.

He'll hang up and listen.

I have not used any of those devices but I assume the droid has to be best, it runs Linux OS.

I got my first smart phone last summer. The reason I got it was so that I could receive emails when I'm away from my computer. I had always associated BB with more business use and the other brands more with media and pop use. I wound up going with Droid. So far it's done everything I've needed it to do and it does have a 4" HD screen.

Yeah, there are battery issues but there are things you can do to make the battery life longer. I can get about 1.5 days out of the battery through normal use, which for me is checking emails, some texts, phone calls, and a small amount of surfing. If I use the phone significantly, then the battery will not last a day. I don't use app killers or anything like that, I just turn off live wallpapers if I want more life out of the battery and reduce how much time the screen is using power. That's where 75% of the battery usage comes from. If you're a heavy user, then yeah I could definitely see the battery being an issue.

The real test for me is syncing up to my computer. I'm about to get web hosting and if I can sync to Outlook and the MS Exchange Server and sync up spreadsheets from my computer that I have on servers, then I can say Droid is the right choice for me.

Two points to consider:
1. The Droid has random slow downs that make any feature difficult, if not impossible, to use. When the first happened, I thought my phone was broken. I still haven't figured out what it is that's going on, but somebody told me the phone is updating. Sometimes the slow downs have lasted for an hour, sometimes for a day.

2. A buddy of mine is who is a strict business user -- he has a BB and has been using that for years -- kept horking mine last month when I was visiting him. Just got a text from him today that he's getting an HTC.
