That restaurant question made me stop and think what is the best bar in Bozeman. I know not everyone’s favorite bar will be on this list, but these I figured would be the top six.
Editted by kmax to add more options since quast can't figure it out.

I don't know - I would think the Cat's Paw would have to be on the list... for tradition and the name if nothing else!

Spec's & the Legion for sure, but definitely the Cannery for some of us old farts- I grew up with Fletch.

You've gotta put the Cannery on that list! Any bar with a pool table on the ceiling is cool.

Once a vote is cast you can’t change it. I knew that I would leave off some good ones. You can only have 6 options, I had both the Cat’s Paw and the Cannery down but they didn’t show up. I even had the Scoop down for those old cowboys.
Little side note; the best Bloody Mary in Bozeman is served at the Scoop Bar.

The reason he has a pool table on the ceiling, is because Fletchs' Dad (Bless his soul- knew him well when we were growing up) said 'You can't have a successful bar in Montana without having a pool table'.

Just gotta be smarter than your average lineman.

Cannery and Cat's Paw are now options, but I can't change anybody's vote.

Cannery definitely has the hottest bartenders

aaah, the memories of the Rockin' R. Pucking in the bathroom, breaking beer bottles on the pool table, makin' out with girls in the back.....good times.
Not that I would do any of that.

I am sooooooooo old the Dance bars in my day where the Rats Paw, sundance, and about 3 incarnations of the Molly Brown. The place to go on a weekday after a test or project was the Huffbrau (sp?) or Scoop. The one thing I was always proud about was that i never ever went to the R-Bar. Then again the nice thing was that the drinking age was 19 and I turned 19 less than 2 months after arriving in Bozeman!
Is the Rats Paw still the meat market It was back in the early 80's

Quast, man, I don't think I can pick just one.
All of the above, and then some. Unlike mslacat, I was at the R Bar almost daily.

Yep! Don't go there very often, because it's such a zoo- but it does definitely offer some nice scenery on occassion.
Too bad the Sundance closed because it was a great place with good music.

Cat's Paw has really gone down hill. They rarely have live music anymore, and is now a place for old people to go to gamble and suck down heaters

Some of us have to depend on our good looks not our brains to make a living.

I loved the old R Bar. You could spit, puke or bleed on the floor and no one would look at you sideways. Now if you go in the R Bar not dressed nicely the bartenders snub you. I remember in the old R Bar when a d-lineman decided that he wanted to run through the men’s bathroom door. He was successful in his efforts, and the management replaced the door with a piece of plywood. The plywood was up for 6 months! After the R Bars reformatting I would definitely have to say that my favorite bar is the Crystal- not a big fan of Grunge, but it is still a good bar.

Back in my college days I would have said hands down, the Crystal, but then Cash quit and its gone steadily down hill. Spectators is my favorite know and they definately have the best talent as far as servers go. Anymore I think the Eagles is my favorite down town bar, especially if Johnny Steele is playing.
Anyone remember the old Walker's Club/Watering Hole, I was a big fan of that bar till they made it the Zebra and know it smells like an armpit. (did someone from Missoula take it over

Specs and Cannery, hands down are the best in town. They were my favorites in school, and have only gotten better in the last 10 years. Specs is still one of my favorite stops before a basketball game or after the football game to get a pizza and beer(s).
Rats Claw was only good on Thursday nights or when live music was playing.
Please dont tell me they play grunge music at the Crystal

That is a country bar, they even shot a George Strait commercial in there. sheesh!
I was always a fan of Santa Fe Reds when in need of a change, great margs! As for newer bars, I kinda like Montana Ale Works.

They don't play grundge music at the Crystal- "Grundge" is the owner.

Though I'm pretty sure it's "Gruntch", not "Grundge".
