My wife is going back to college next fall and needs a Laptop. Do any of you college aged kids have a preference on the best one for school?

I like my HP! Got it about 2 years ago and still works great. No complaints.

I just got a Toshiba Satellite in December and I love it. Very easy to type on, nice clear screen, and my favorite part is that it has a keypad separate from the keyboard which most laptops do not have. Toshiba also comes with a 2 year no questions asked warranty. I have been very happy with both the laptop and customer service at Toshiba

I'll put in a second for Toshiba. I got the
http://us.toshiba.com/computers/laptops/qosmio Qosmio, and so far it has been the best laptop I've owned. I was happy with my Dell Vostro, but the video card fried on it, and since it was integrated it was going to be $450 to get a new motherboard for that sucker. It lasted about 2 years, my Dell.
Toshiba's are spendy, though.

I bought a Toshiba 3 or 4 years ago and was very disappointed. I then purchased an HP and loved it.
I've also owned or had work computers that were Dell, and a couple of HP models and been impressed with all of them. But frankly, I know most people are really happy with the their Toshiba too so I think I may have just had a lemon. I think in general if you get a good brand you'll be pleased.

Macbook air. Unless she is running some kind of serious programs the portability and ease far outweigh (bad word choice?) any downsides.

I used, and still use a Macbook pro, and love it. My office provided me with a windows tower but I still set my Macbook in front of the Windows machine and use it. I would never switch back to windows I love mac OS to much

I've tried to use the Mac OS and I can't stand it. I have given it many chances but it's just not for me. And it's not worth the price that Apple charges.
