I used to be a big fan of faith-based programs on the principal that a private agency with an infrastructure in place was probably more efficient at accomplishing a social cause task than a government agency. I was a little leery of the proselytizing and discrimination factor that is an inherent risk with a program like that, but I also assumed that as long as the charity was a completely separate entity as the parent organization, it was more than doable.
Then I read stories about agencies like this, and suddenly I find my hope dashed and my opinion shifting. It appears that even letting this group get license plate money (from pro-life license plates ... not sure if political cause license plates are really necessary to begin with -- if you like to make political statements via car, buy a bumper sticker and then make a donation to the charity directly instead without making the state the middleman) is a bad idea. Let them discriminate without any aid of any kind from the state, as is their right.
