I got dem Dial-up blues!

Earlier this week I left my office of 7 1/2 years to a temp office waiting for my new office that will be ready in about a month and 1/2. I called my Internet provider to see what the cost would be to transfer my service essentially twice. I thought it was a simple enough question, but I guessed wrong. Labor costs could be $75 -350 per move, but since my first move would be in a "residential area" it might be closer to $50 - 300, but my current modem would not work at that location so I have to get a adsl modem for there. At the 2nd new location there is DSL (like I had for 5 years,) and maybe my original Modem will work there,...maybe. The second move will be the more expensive installation because it is in a business location. Now if I simply let my account be cancelled for two months and then re-up it later their is a "qualification fee" for a new account.... possibly. They will of cource want me to sign a 3 year commitment (I am a month to month kind of guy) So what will it cost me well maybe $75 to $500 for the first move and $100 to $600 for the second. Maybe.

Then after talking with four different people (the residential sales person, the commercial sales person, the office manager and then the technician,) over the span of 10 days to describe what I thought would be a simple request, I am told that I can get on the schedule in 3-5 weeks!

I just spent this afternoon rummaging through old computer carcass's looking for a 56k dial-up modem. Folk there is money to be made here. If you call up a Cable TV provider and ask them what it will cost to hook up to cable, the secretary of Janitor can tell you what it will cost. Why cannot I get a in the ballpark quote

Folk I am dial toning it for a while, and I hate every minute of it!!!!
