Mrs. Leslie and I will be in Bozeman July 9 and I am looking for a nice, J-Bozeman's Bistro type restaurant. J-B's is closed on Monday. A friend recommended Over the Tapas. Any thoughts, anyone? Please, no beer bar or noisey types. Thanks
PS, Maybe the post on Coach Hysell should be moved to the Football site. Sorry to hear about his situation. I actually played AGAINST Cliff when he was in high school playing for the Helena Crimson Bengals. He was a tough dude; strong and determined, like he wanted from his players. And you are right, Cliff left the program in far, far better shape than he found it! Prayers for him.

While Over the Tapas is very good food, you should know that it is ala carte appetizers and very small (seating not the food).

If you like Cajun food, Cafe Zydeco is good. Apparently there's a new French restaurant that is also supposed to be good, Cafe Francais des Arts. Good soup and pastries, give it a try.

I have heard the Black Bird Cafe (Italian) is very good. Might not be as structured service as you would get at the Bistro, I think it is a little more laid back but definetly not a bar/food type of place.

We ate at the Black Bird a few weeks ago and were thoroughly disappointed. The menu and the seating area are small, the room is incredibly noisy, and the atmosphere feels like it is pandering to everything that people lament that Bozeman has become in the last 15 years. I would rather go elsewhere.

Runner up...Rocky Mountain Sea Food Company. This place may be great, but we'll be eating in downtown BOZEMAN, MONTANA. Buffalo or sea food=no brainer.

How many in the "chain"? Like "The 4B's" is considered a chain? It gets a little problematical when one site listed Baskin and Robbins among the top ten restaurants in Bozeman.

How many in the "chain"? Like "The 4B's" is considered a chain? It gets a little problematical when one site listed Baskin and Robbins among the top ten restaurants in Bozeman.

They have 46 restaurants in 16 states.

I am glad that you didn't choose Rocky Mtn Seafood, you might have been slightly disappointed to find that it is primarily a wholesale store. They may have some sushi prepared to go, but it is mostly a market for shopping to take the seafood somewhere else and prep/cook yourself.


If you want a nice local meal in the Baxter hotel turn left when you enter and eat at the Bacchus. If you want Bison raised in Kansas and shipped to Montana then go to Ted's.

Hope it's a good one. And I'm not necessarily put off by a "chain". While I'm not looking for Applebys or Chili's, I would have jumped on a Morton's Steak House, Ruths Chris, PF Changs or Z Tejas had there been one. If I wanted to strictly adhear to a "Montana experience", I'd have headed to Manhatten and the Oasis.
