What do you guys think the best comedy movies are? I recently watched Blazing Saddles, by Mel Brooks. WOW, that is irreverent, and funnier than hell. It makes me really want to see The Producers.

"O Brother Where Art Thou" is one of my all-time favorites. I have probably seen it well over 10 times and I giggle like a school girl everytime. The Cohen Bros. have some great movies. Fargo is up there on my list, too.

One of my favorite movies of all time is Swingers. It has just the right mixture of making fun of LA (always a good thing in my book), some solid characters, and a humorous but honest look at the life of a twenty-something single guy. The famous "how many days should I wait before I call her?" scene gets mentioned at least once a month in conversations between me and my friends...

For recent somewhat highbrow films, "Sideways" is right up there for me. For classic dumb comedy, "Strange Brew" will always have a soft spot in my heart. The other that have been mentioned are all great as well. I'd also throw in "Office Space."

For out and out laughs, Plains Trains and Automobiles, Big Lobowski, Caddyshack and Major League or tops including others mentioned already.

For more sophisticated humor Beautiful Girls, Nobody's Fool, and High Fidelity, mainly because I can relate personally with these.

Army of Darkness always makes me laugh. I've always liked Bruce Campbell. Bubba Ho-tep gets funnier the more times I've seen it.

I didn't know that anyone thought Sideways was funny...

40 Year Old Vigin is damn funny.

I really like Tommy Boy:

"I could take a dump in a box and mark it guaranteed, but then all you'd have is a guaranteed box of crap"..Love that movie. Although I don't think it was supposed to be funny, I always like "The Last Boy Scout" and the Monty Python "trilogy"

I agree with "Sideways." It was intelligently funny and I think we need more movies like that. I thought it had plenty of scenes that just make you smile when you think back on them.

"Hey fellas, where all the white women at?"

Great comedies: Mallrats, Super Troopers, Animal House, Office Space Tommy Boy and Black Sheep (definately underrated in my opinion) Caddyshack and Young Frankenstein just to name a few. Big Lebowski may be one of the greatest movies ever made!

If we're mentioning Mallrats, it would be wrong not to mention Clerks too. Clerks was the first movie in that series, and by far the funniest, IMO.

Clerks was one of those movies I had to watch a few times before I really started to like it. They are coming out with Clerks 2 this summer I saw, so should be interesting to see.

My rankings of the "series" Mallrats, Dogma, Clerks, Chasing Amy and I guess Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back (Jersey Girl may be directed by Kevin Smith, but with all his genius on that one, he had a swing and a miss!)

I downloaded a bunch of Robin Williams after seeing a post here about how great his comedy is.. no kidding, that's good, intellectual comedy. A lot of the other guys I download are using body movements to make jokes, but Williams is all talk. I love the part when Moses is leading the Jews out of Egypt:

(Williams): "Come, we will go to the Holy Land, and later to Miami to f*** up an election."

Speaking of Robin Williams, I saw a movie called "The House of D" with him this weekend, that is a great movie. Not so much a comedy, but a great movie.

In terms of movies, they have all be covered here but I like, Anchor Man, Office Space, Wedding Crashers, and Napoleon Dynamite.

There is one thing that really stands out about this thread, we all have way too much time on our hands! :D

Dimpus Burger Guy: [into mic] Double bacon cheeseburger. It's for a cop.
Farva: What the hell's that all about? You gonna spit in it now?
Dimpus Burger Guy: No, I just told him that so he makes it good.
[into mic]
Dimpus Burger Guy: Don't spit in that cop's burger.
[to Farva]
Dimpus Burger Guy: Want me to dipa-size your meal for 25 cents?
Farva: Want me to punch-a-size your face, for free?
Dimpus Burger Guy: It's only 25 cents and look how much you get.
Thorny: Look, kid, he doesn't want it.
Farva: I'll just take a litre o' cola.
Dimpus Burger Guy: [into mic] Literacola? Do we sell literacola?
[to Farva]
Dimpus Burger Guy: What's a literacola?
Farva: [slowly starts shouting] Litre is French for?

OK This is a not a plot driven comedy, but I rented Richard Prior Live (I believe that was the name of it) and I laughed so hard my chest literally hurt, furthermore dispite being over 20 years old it really made me think. We really lost something when he died.
