How did you meet your sweetheart?

Post by Stevicat » Mon Feb 13, 2006 4:13 pm

I met mine when my friends and I were doing prank phone calls in Jr. High. This was before caller ID, of course. We were dialing random numbers and my future wife happened to answer very politely using her name so we continued to call her throughout the summer and just chat with her. About two years later, in high school, one of my friends was telling me that he met the girl we were talking to that summer and she wanted to meet us. Well, it was love at first sight with her and I and we ended up dating all through the rest of high school and college. We now have three kids and are going to celebrate our 20th anniversary this year.

Happy Valentines Day!

That is a funny and great story! I am guessing not too many others share anything similar to that.

Sorry mine isn't so exciting, but it was at MSU! We both lived in the same building freshman year.

I waited tables at Hipshot's (anybody remember that place?) and my husband used to come in for lunch, drinks, etc. It was not love at first sight - he thought I was stuck up! Now, he and that stuck up girl are getting ready to celebrate their 10th anniversary.

Well, since Stevicat met his wife via a prank phone call, I have a little more confidence in coming clean on how I met my fiance. And, considering this audience, I probably shouldn't be as hung up on the idea as I am.

So ... we met online. We were both bored with our social circles, and happened upon each other last year, and things have been going great ever since.

And, ironically, she gives me crap for spending too much time on this board.

had a little help from Brian's roommate Danny Burrows since we all lived in the same Apt. complex. went to a BBQ. we shot pool, actually didn't really click. when asst football coach george booker found out we met he kept pushing us to date , said "june cleaver has met her ward", kept teasing us that we were going to get married and we'd have to thank him yada yada yada - well we did in '97.

so do i have to thank george for the kids too?

Junior year I got talked into running for AIChE president since no one else would run. Jason was told no one else was running so he decided to run again (he'd been pres the year before). He beat me, but we became friends. Started studying together. He got a full time job with Cargill at the same plant I was doing an internship, so we got an apartment together. 2 weeks before we moved, we started dating.

Talk about an akward living arangement! But it worked out.

I was helping run a bar in Livingston the same time I was a shift manager at the Paw. My buddy who owned the bar in Livingston and I were drinking beer and listening this new band he had booked and I met the lead singer. A few weeks later she was trying to book her band at the Paw and we decided it would be fun to go to a party together. Almost six years later she still hasn't been fed up with me

Interesting thread. :)

The woman I'm "sort of" dating is someone I met at a bar. It was pretty nondescript, actually...she was with her friends, I was with mine, and somehow we ended up chatting. We only talked for about five minutes and then my friends were leaving, so I got her # and left. I never expected it to go anywhere, to be honest, but I called her, and we've gone out 7 or 8 times now...

I'm not sure if she's my "sweetheart" or not; we're probably about at the point where it's almost time to have the "where is this going?" discussion, but we haven't yet (partly because I'm not sure where I am in that regard, and I've sorta been avoiding it. :) ) But, she is one of the only people I've dated that 've really "clicked" with since my last relationship ended, so we'll see.

My brother introduced me to my sweetheart at Spectators after a Cat football game. I knew who she was for a long time but was always too intimidated to talk to her.

One more reason I love the Cat's and Specs. oh yeah and my brother.

I met my new Fiance while we were both MSU freshmen orientation leaders.

A few nights after she and I met, I was out with a few buddies and I introduced them to this new girl I had met named Tara. My buddies were all pretty impressed, but for some reason Tara looked a little disenchanted. I asked her what was wrong, to which she replied "My name's Amber!"

That was 5 years ago, and the rest is history.....

As someone who just got his "official Divorce Papers" last week, I am a little bit like the Grinch or Scrooge at Chrismas, this year. It did not help though that my soon to be ex-wife asked me to watch the kids tomorrow night

I am truly sorry to hear that. It must be very hard.
I think Valentines day is stupid for the record. If that helps. :(

I met my wife on the weekend Mt St Helens erupted. We had an " Ash party" and she was being chased by a couple of other guys. I didn't pay alot of attention until the next morning as we were all recovering I was cooking breakfast for everyone and in walked this lady with long blonde hair.., smitten I asked her to meet me at the Belt Rodeo.
The rest is history... I lasted until the 8 second horn blew I guess. Now 25 years later we are better than ever.

Hmmm, I didn't get to go to a special one week preschool because of Mt St Helens erupting. Congrats on being married so long!!!!

Ugh...I'd like to second the "sorry, man" sentiments to mslacat. I wish there was something any of us could say to make that situation easier, but I don't think there is...just know that we're all thinking of you.

--GL

P.S. As an aside, I'd also like to nominate Hello Kitty's "Valentine's Day is stupid!" quote for "Post of the Year," if there is such a title here. I never thought I'd hear those words escape any woman's mouth, but rest assured that if I am lucky enough to find a NY woman who shares those sentiments, I just might drop to one knee and ask for her hand in holy matrimony right on the spot. :D
