Post by RickRund » Sat Nov 16, 2024 10:11 am

We have YouTube TV. Can I subscribe to espn + or will we need another provider, Sling, Hulu, etc. Doesn't look to be an espn + app..

Thank you

Maybe we could PIN the answer.

NOTE: You need a high-speed internet connection to use ESPN+. It is an Internet streaming service only, not a channel.

I also have YouTubeTV as my provider, so here is the answer.

1. You can subscribe to ESPN+ with YouTubeTV as your provider, as long as your channel selection includes ESPN. If ESPN is in your channel lineup then YoutubeTV is a qualifying provider. Just choose it from the provider list when you subscribe to ESPN+.

2. Add the ESPN app to your Smart Device. That might be your Smart TV or something like Roku. ESPN+ does not have its own app. ESPN+ streams are found within the ESPN app.

NOTE: YoutubeTV and ESPN have apps for not only your TV but for your Internet connected Phone and Tablet as well. I watch ESPN+ on my Smart TV, my un-Smart TV which has an AppleTV appliance (similar to a Roku) connected, my iPhone and my iPad. Watch the ‘Cats anywhere, as long as you have a high speed internet connection.

NOTE: ESPN+ is offered as a package deal with Disney+ and Hulu. If you have the other two, ESPN+ is a pretty inexpensive add-on. Also the Smith’s grocery chain (and maybe all Kroger family stores) is offering a free ESPN+ subscription with their Boost subscription which covers shipping, home delivery, etc. Currently Boost is less than ESPN+ for a year so that’s another way to get a discounted ESPN+.

Everyone should be watching the ‘Cats on ESPN+. It includes football, men’s and women’s basketball, volleyball, track & field, and soccer and softball for schools that have those. All Big Sky schools. Many other conferences, including a lot of FCS ones — I often watch games of upcoming Bobcat opponents.

Thanks, appreciated. Guessing the monthly is $9.99 or $11.99.

We bit the bullet and got plus. When we go to a sports bar we drop at least $50-$60 bucks to watch, eats and adult beverages or two.

Good decision. It’s a pretty sweet bullet. I watch at least 12 + 30 + 30 + 10 = 82 Bobcat contests each year, plus some track and field. Today I’ve watched part of South Dakota vs North Dakota, NDSU vs Missouri State, Idaho State at Eastern Washington and Portland State at Montana. I’d have watched more of that game but my ears have an acute allergy to Marty M. And later today I look forward to the ‘Cats vs. UC Davis. If I didn’t watch any more than that listed above all year, I’m at not much more than $1/game. And by your math, if it keeps you home just twice a year when you would have gone out you are at break-even. My cousin’s son is currently a pitcher for Holy Cross baseball — on ESPN+. For a fan of collegiate sports, it’s a gold mine.

I really had only heard bits of Marty. Probably would rather hear tiny tim or new kids on the block type music.

A little bit of clarification here as there are some nuances that I think are being missed and potentially misunderstood by a lot of folks.

First ESPN+ is completely separate and unrelated to the cable ESPN networks (ESPN, ESPN2, ESPNU, ESPNNews). You do not have to have a cable, satellite, Youtube TV, Hulu Live, etc. subscription at all to subscribe to ESPN+. The app to watch ESPN+ is just the standard ESPN app on your phone, tablet, streaming tv/device (or you can watch from the ESPN website). Subscribing to the ESPN+ package allows you to stream all ESPN+ content BUT NOT any content that is on the cable ESPN Networks. This will include access to the majority of all MSU athletic events.

For the ESPN cable networks you will need to subscribe to a cable, satellite or cable streaming service (YouTube TV, Hulu Live, FuboTV, etc.). MOST (BUT NOT ALL) of these will then allow you to sign in with your login credentials for that service within the ESPN app and allow you to also watch programming from the ESPN cable networks within the ESPN app.

So to reiterate, ESPN+ is a completely standalone service. It doesn't matter what cable/satellite/streaming cable service you subscribe to or even if you don't subscribe to any, you can get ESPN+ and watch the majority of Bobcat Athletic events from within the ESPN app. The caveat is that the Cats get at least one football game a year (plus possibly a playoff game or two) and I think recently maybe even a Basketball game that is on an ESPN cable network and is not available to just ESPN+ subscribers so you will need access to ESPN cable networks for those.
