Dirty words - UK style

Post by SonomaCat » Wed Mar 22, 2006 2:29 pm

If you were ever curious about what words are considered obscene across the pond, or if you just want to learn some new, more British, ways to express yourself, this is pretty funny/interesting:

http://www.reason.com/hitandrun/2006/03 ... tml#013061

The pdf they reference has a full list of the bad words by severity. A few on there are probably not ones that most Americans would even realize were derogatory (including Bush ... when he used the term "Paki" not so long ago).

Although the top 3 on the list appear to be quite consistent with how they would be rated over here.

As a female, I'd definitely agree with the top ranking of the "C" word. :!:

Yeah ... I believe the harshest phrase in the English language is #3-ing followed by #1. I have heard that no other phrases come close.
