This is some dead guy news that I like to hear.

This guy was not a good person at all. I'm glad they got him. I know that's harsh, but he earned it.

Paul Harvey sez the price of oil fell below $70/barrel in the same breath as reporting Al-Zs death. Apparently the $25 million bounty will be split several ways.

could not have happened to a nicer guy. Did we get him on 6-6-6?

he was a reprehensible disgusting human being and hopefully his remains will be fed to vermin...here's something to consider...if we had not invaded iraq in the first place we would not have had the problem...and if the resources would have been used to hunt down osama we might all be enjoying lower gas prices...funny how it all comes back to oil...

anyone thinking that any previous *up to approx 1979* action in the mid east has nothing to do with oil is fooling themselves. However, anything past desert storm in 1990 is not about oil, as much as i would love it to be for free oil...

I would also invite you, Hell's, to provide a recommendation of a book that would suggest that oil has nothing to do with our presence in the Middle East.

People can argue that it is not the ONLY reason in play, but it certainly is a large factor. Were it not for oil and the world's need for it, none of these countries would be anything more than third world nations with zero power and zero attention from the rest of the world. In other words, they would be Africa.

Or, they could be nations with diverse economies and a thriving middle class like Israel. If you remove oil from the picture, then the monarchies (that hoard all of the wealth and manipulate their own poverty-stricken citizens) wouldn't be in place and there might actually be some equality in their societies, along with more progressive views on govermnent and culture/human rights/gender equality/etc.

But one way or another, one can not have a discussion about Middle East politics and war, especially as it relates to the United States, without discussing the impact that oil plays in the equation.

Will the oil/car craze ever end? "We gotta get more cheap oil!" "It'd be nice to buy a new Hummer!" Everyone is tied to the price of gas and their own vehicle. It seems as if people know more about their car and gas prices than they do their own children. We just keep adding lanes to the highways and building bigger, more ostentatious vehicles. But is that what people really want? I notice that hybrid vehicles draw more rolling eyes lately, when you'd think'd they'd be giving us all hope. At what point do you think people will throw up their arms and decide to be a part of the answer?

Actually I think we are getting to that point and a lot of people are trying to become part of the solution. I know there are still tons of people who don't realize they are part of the problem or act like they don't care, but more and more do care.

I will admit that I have turned the corner and I am focusing more on what I can do to consume less. I still drive a truck(which I believe my wife and I need to have around) but we drive it very seldom other than when hauling something. I have even considered buying a cheap good gas mileage commuter car. If you would have asked me two years ago I would have said I will drive whatever I like with no consideration for gas mileage. Now I see a 20 year old guy driving a lifted Dodge getting 8 miles a gallon and get pissed off that he isnt' trying to save gas. My wife is worried I may be buying a Subaru and wearing Birkenstocks.

Any book that talks about the Crusades would be a good place to start. Or maybe the Bible, or, Koran, or books on Roman history. We are in a religious war and they declared war on us. When you seek the truth, maybe you will learn something.

It took a couple years, but now he commutes in a 15-yr old 32 mph econo-beater. Never thought I'd see the day, but now he goes on and on about how that car has paid for itself a few times over.

i was one of those guys who drove the truck that got around 9 mpg until i traded it in on a two door i guess you can call it a car that gets around 30 right before the gas prices shot up. to say that i regret that decision, hell yeah! there is lots i cant do with my car that i use to do with my truck, but that is until i get gas now i dont.

i just only wish it were a diesel

If Iraq is a religous war, then Bush has some explaining to do. That is the one excuse we haven't heard yet ... mostly because it would be the end of our country as we know it. It would also be interesting to find out how you would reconcile our "religious war" with the fact that we are promoting the formation of their government that includes Islamic law right in it? If this is a modern day version of the crusades, we are doing a piss-poor job of imposing our will on them, aren't we?

You may be confusing Iraq with the war on Al Qeada (which has nothing to do with Saddam, lest anything think otherwise ... the administration has even been very clear on this point) ... which, if you will recall, is the war that the original post that you panned suggested we should have been focusing on instead of Iraq.
