50 point lead = suspension

Recently found this ridiculous article on the net:
HARTFORD, Conn. -- High school football coaches in Connecticut will have to be good sports this fall -- or risk a suspension.
The football committee of the Connecticut Interscholastic Athletic Conference, which governs high school sports, is adopting a "score management" policy that will suspend coaches whose teams win by more than 50 points.
A rout is considered an unsportsmanlike infraction and the coach of the offending team will be disqualified from coaching the next game, said Tony Mosa, assistant executive director of the Cheshire, Conn.-based conference.
"We were concerned with any coach running up the game. There's no need for it," Mosa said. "This is something that we really have been discussing for the last couple of years. There were a number of games that were played where the difference of scores were 60 points or more. It's not focused on any one particular person."
Some have dubbed it the "Jack Cochran rule," after the New London High football coach, who logged four wins of more than 50 points last year. In New London's 60-0 rout of Tourtelotte/Ellis Tech, Cochran enraged the Tourtelotte bench by calling a timeout just before halftime. Tourtelotte's coach was arrested on breach of peace charges after police say he struck a security guard and an assistant New London coach.
Leo Facchini, New London's athletic director, called it unfair to single out his coach.
Facchini said he and Cochran tried to pull in the reins during New London's 90-0 drubbing of Griswold last season by trying to get both sides and the timekeeper to agree to run a continuous clock.
Some states, including Iowa, continuously run the game clock in the second half if a team has a 35-point lead. The Connecticut committee rejected a similar proposal because members thought it would unfairly cut into backups' playing time.
I can't believe they would pass this. This is up there on the list of the most retarded things I have ever heard. I agree with the continuous running of the clock, but suspending a coach is completely ludicrous.

I would agree 100% unless the coach, once the rout was obvious, was an a$$ and didn't completely clear the bench to give everyone on the team playing time.

I kind of like this; a southern state I coached in had an unwritten rule among coaches: as soon as you get up four touchdowns late in the second quarter, both teams started playing their second and third string kids, the team up four touchdowns pretty much finished the game with everything leads, dives or bellies. This after I played for a coach in Belgrade that beat Gardiner 86-6 and had us up well over 50 most games. The Comical wrote an article about him running the scores up way back in either 68 or 69. But then again, Whitewater's basketball coach beat Lustre 138 to 8 this past year, so I guess we don't care about kicking whoever we play when their down

I just think it is absolutely insane that no one can be good at anything anymore without making someone else feel bad. Everything has to be so PC these days, nothing is competitive and everything has to be played to make the loser feel better.

Does Montana still have the 45-pt rule for FB? Years ago, if one team got ahead by 45 pts in the second half, the game was ended.

I don't really get the logic of this paragraph - we don't want to cut into backups playing time, but we also don't want one team to play and just roll over? So basically the team up by 40 points sends in their backups to take a knee, and that is valuable playing time? Wacky.

Class C did, I think they just run the clock now instead of calling the game.
I watched Scobey beat Harlotown 72-0 in a Semi Final game 4-5 yrs ago. It was ugly.

The running clock is a good idea, but I'm probably more in favor of just calling the game. I mean, if the game is that lopsided, there is not anything good that can come of continuing to play. Bad things, such as injuries and resentment are more likely. I don't think there is any further lessons to learn when a game gets that out of hand.
I mean, after a 4 or 5 TD lead, everyone at the field knows who got there a$$ kicked.

Well let's say this. If you are up by 45 points and you have your reserves in (say a senior who rarely plays) and let's say that player get an INT and has a chance to run it back for a TD, why should he and the team and coach be penalized for that?

In everything but AA, it reverts to a running clock. In A & B if you get it back within the point differential, then the regular clock returns
