Man, talk about arrogant, condescending and elitist! This attitude won't do much to help this sport gain acceptance with the average American

That's good stuff! Thanks.

I know soccer has improved my geography if nothing else. I now know where Togo is.

Here's a quote I found interesting: Soccer-love also says—and this is perhaps most important—that you reject the overweening hype and made-for-TV packaging that surrounds American sports for something that, in theory, approaches a purer experience.

Anybody see the pre-game introductions for the Mavericks-Heat game last night? I wanted to puke-I thought the griz announcer was annoying, but he's got nothing on the Heat's. And then they have some sort of syrupy jazz Sax rendition of the national anthem by Clarence Clemmons. It was enough to make me wish the Soviets had won the cold war! As opposed to the World Cup where everyone in the stands and on the field just sings their national anthem-fans and players alike.

We must support soccer because our gay community needs a sport to call their own.

Boy I don't know about that-I'd think American Football might have a little more to worry about...there's that whole center to quarterback exchange thing.

I have to admit ... playing QB in high school (viva Al Bundy!) and taking snaps under center was the single-most gay thing I have ever done in my life.

I couldn't look the centers in the eye afterwards ... and I wasn't even getting the top of my right hand "right up in there" as far as the coach wanted. Fumble a few snaps ... or come close to sexually assaulting a minor. Both answers leave us with a version of the Crying Game.
