I read this today online and it baffles me that MSU will spend $250,000 to renovate the pond. I know it is a nice spot but give me a break this is insane the University could spend 250 K on something better couldn't they?
I like the ducks but this is crazy

I don't think 250k is in oreder for it, but it does need an upgrade. I believe it is part of the entire sampus renovation plan. I would like to see some blueprints of this plan for the pond, however. Do you have a link to an article or something?

Actually I was thinking the same thing! That is about 1/3 of what it would take to put in SpinTurf or Field Turf.

I don't, I know a lot of Cheever hall residences that a lot of use out of the Duck pond. Boy I remember like it was yesterday all of those 2:00AM calls that would go out:
"I am going to feed the ducks anyone want to join me"
5 or 6 people would head across the street, go and visit the ducks. It was amazing, the generousity of these Architecture student. Even in the dead of winter when I would swear there was not a duck to be found, they would "find some duck to to feed". I always admired how dedicated these fine upstanding students were.

This must be the same pond we used to have the tug-of-war over between the freshmen and other-than-freshmen to determine if the frosh had to wear their beanies until Thanksgiving! During my years at MSU there was an old green Chevy with a ripped up convertible top named "White Cloud" that was available to anyone willing to give up a case of beer. Nobody seemed to know who owned it. The upper classmen brought White Cloud to the t-o-w and tied the rope to the rear bumper. The frosh, eager to get rid of the beanies, dragged everything on the other end on the rope into the pond and nearly had White Cloud in the water until someone cut the rope. God only knows who or what might be on the bottom of that pond. I say renovate...but why does everything have to be made "safer"?

So w/ all the "quality" footing you'll have this November, it should be 36-6, right?
Bet a hundy?

Oh my god they are now trying to make the damn pond safer??? That is just nuts. It is not that deep and if you have kids and you can't keep them at a safe distance that should not be MSU's problem

That is a lot of money!!! I wonder if they are going to put up a railing?
maybe they should put the fish back in there that used to be there when I was at school. They were great.

The link to the Comical isn't working anymore. Is this the duck pond across from North Hedges?? If so, what in the world can they do that will cost that much money?? And WHY???
I never once feared for my safety when walking past. Well, once I got past the fear I had of ducks.

I heard from a Kalispell design firm, that since everyone keeps dog'n on our football stadium, that MSU wants the duck pond to look more like washington friz stadium. I guess its cheaper to upgrade the pond than our own stadium.
