it is very apparent there is are a significant number of conservative and liberal posters on this board...most never deviate from their political views or entertain opposing views seriously...this reality is even more apparent on the "other" board....why aren't people prone to change their opinions or beliefs even when presented with facts opposing their opinion/belief...

And there's always the fact that some people actually believe what they say.
I do read other point of view, think about them, and many times still come away disagreeing. Usually with a stronger understanding of what I do believe.
I don't do it for security, or to be slavish. Just what I truly feel and believe. I do like a good debate though.

Just to clarify, I find very few people that actually fit into the category that I described ... especially on this board. When I use the term "hard-core partisan," that means a person who really does act the way I described. Fortunately, I only see a handful of those types these days (on the boards that I generally frequent, anyway).

gtapp...really...i'm trying to ask a serious question...the majority of posters are successful graduates of a pretty good university...and just the word...university...invokes an environment of questioning and well rounded perspective...and exchange and acceptance of others ideas...
you normally post intelligent remarks...you could post a remark that might not be concealed in sarcasm...not that i object...but some might miss your point...in 500 words or less...what are your objective thoughts...

OK, Sorry. One of the toughest things to do is to admit to others and yourself that your beliefs may not be entirely correct. To admit that another point of view may have some merit can scare the crap out of a person especially if you have been arguing against that very point for years. I find that it usually happens that someone finally presents the same argument in a different manner that starts to have some validity and I have to come to grips with the logic in their presentation. A perfect example of what I mean is this site. Most griz fans come on here and immediately they start in on how great the griz have been and how great their facilities are and how great this years team (insert year) is going to be. I immediately feel argumentative and see their arguments as proof of how BAD they will be. Then an occasional griz poster will make a valid realistic point using factual data and even though I still don't want to accept the fact that the griz may be good I at least have to consider his/her point.couloir41 wrote:gtapp...really...i'm trying to ask a serious question...the majority of posters are successful graduates of a pretty good university...and just the word...university...invokes an environment of questioning and well rounded perspective...and exchange and acceptance of others ideas...
