I'm curious, since Re/Max has invited Cat fans to hang out at the Re/Max tailgate, how many of you Cat fans plan on stopping by??

I'm actually thinking about going and just hang out at the tailgates...
If I do, I will make it clear to all egrizzers who El Gato is. I'm sure putting names & actual PEOPLE with our "handles" will serve to make us all a little more civil on here... Except possibly jag, bronco, and eastcoast who I fear are lost causes...

All are welcome, It's just that Cat fans are going to have to pay extra for beer.
Just kidding.
A few weeks back there were a lot of egrizzers at my tailgate, but last week there was only one or two. There is actually another one a lot e griz people go to, its out in the parking lot. It's a guy from washington, his license plate reads something like GrzFns or something. He's also a frequent poster on e griz with that handle. I see a lot of egrizzers there in passing.

Ree & Meat,
I have no problem recognizing talent, even if it is on the griz. But you guys STILL see the world through griz-colored glasses...
First of all, you didn't answer my comment: Did you really think heading into the brawl that our top 3 rushers would be averaging more than yours? I seriously doubt it. I've admitted JH and Ochs are good players at their positions; it's OK for you 2 to admit that your rushing attack is not as good as you'd hoped...
On to Mr. Ochs. Is he a good QB? No question. But I wouldn't rank him in the same league as DD, Ah Yat, Miller, or even Edwards. I'd take any of those 4 over CO.
Meat, obviously the coaches are preparing for the team & their various "weapons" just as they do every week. All I'm pointing out is that when you break down the griz offensively this season, I doubt even you can say that there's as much there to be worried about as there has been in years past. Simply look at the #'s I posted earlier. The #'s simply don't support Ree's claims of how "talented" various members of your offense are. Did I say we wouldn't be preparing for them anyway? No.
Momentum. You guys definitely have it heading into Saturday. But your confidence was gained against 2 teams that you SHOULD HAVE BEATEN as easily as you did. We should have beaten Sac St and didn't, point taken. But when we win this Sat., we will really be 2nd in the conference & you guys will be 3rd; same record, but we win head-to-head, that makes us 2nd in my book, just like a win makes you the SOLE Big Sky Champion, as far as I'm concerned, because you beat the team you'd be tied with.
Ree, Travis Lulay reads the open field on his feet better than any QB I've EVER seen & I've seen Ochs. They are simply not in the same league in this department. Lulay out of the pocket is what scares your coaches while I'm sure ours are hoping to flush Ochs all day long...
Bottom line to me regarding the griz season is this: Your turnover margin & 2 blocked kicks are the reason you are 8-2. Statistics DO matter in the sense that they eventually "catch up to you". Your defense yields TONS of yardage and yes, they haven't always lead to a lot of points, but they have (SHSU) and they undoubtedly will again. The Cats will score at least 35 this weekend & I'm sure you will see that score (or worse) again in the playoffs.

The rushing attack is as good as I'd hoped. Sometimes not utilized the way I'd liked at the beginning, but it's now to the point where it's very potent. Is Ochs as good as DD? Maybe not, but I'd take Ochs over the other three any day. If you'd take Edwards over Ochs, then our ideas of quarterbacks are very different. I think Neil was a better quarterback than Edwards. I've watched Ochs every game and like it or not, he is the real deal. Just like Lulay. In fact, I think those two are the top vote getters for BSC MVP when it's all said and done.El_Gato wrote:.....it's OK for you 2 to admit that your rushing attack is not as good as you'd hoped...

The numbers for Segars and Walden might not be eye-popping, but that's to be expected. It doesn't mean the possibility of a huge game from either one couldn't happen on any given Saturday. What I'm saying is, just because they don't have the big numbers doesn't mean they shouldn't be game-planned for. Sort of like Wolf for MSU. I don't know how big his numbers are but he's got to be part of the defensive game plan for the Griz.

I don't think you are giving the Griz any credit here. Granted this Griz team isn't as good as it has been in years past, but they have some weapons and great players, and to say they don't have hardly any threats is silly. Ochs TD to INT ratio is impressive, and his completion percentage is way above Lulays. Though I think our D CAN contain the Griz offensive, I also think they could rip us apart too.El_Gato wrote:Ree & Meat,

Oh, and to settle this Walden argument.
Blake Wolf - 41 receptions 534 yards 1 TD
Willie Waldon - 12 receptions 114 yards 3 TD
I'd take Wolf anyday. Defenses cover him a lot when he is in the middle, leaving other receivers wide open. If they don't cover him, Lulay finds him and its 13 yards every time.

Meat,
Would you please wake up and smell the 21st century?
You are talking about "POTENTIAL". I'm talking about REALITY. Sure the guys you mentioned COULD, MAYBE, SOMEDAY have a huge game. So could EVERY member of BOTH teams. The point is Buffet Green, Walden, and Segars have been nothing short of DISAPPOINTING this season to date. To actually claim otherwise really lowers you on my griz-fan-reality-scale, where you generally rank higher than ALL of your comrades...

Are you trying to tell me that Green and Segars haven't had great games...or careers?? This proves that you haven't been watching Griz football. Will a fair and objective Cat fan pipe in here? You seem to be forgetting about all the other weapons on the Griz offense. You have to spread the ball around. You take away Hilliard, and Green has well over 1000 yards. If teams actually kicked to Segars, he leads 1-AA in returns....again! Walden, I'll say this, he hasn't reached his potential because of the playcalling, but when you watch him play you you can tell he has to be accounted for. Great hands and great blocker. The Griz had a tight end a couple of years ago that was fantastic but didn't have all the stats. Spencer Frederick. He got picked up by the New Orleans Saints (don't know what has happened since). My point....you don't have big stats to be an impact player. I'm not saying he's the best TE in the Sky, but he's right up there, stats or not. And, I am talking reality. Would I take Wolf over Walden....maybe. But there's no qb I'd take over Ochs (although Lulay would be my first choice if I had too) and there is no runningback I would take over the Green/Hilliard combo. There is no way I would call Segars, Green, and Walden disappointments.El_Gato wrote:Meat,

Putting even those telling numbers aside, don't discount the fact that Blake Wolf is probably the best blocking TE in the league, plays hard on EVERY play, and is a key figure in the locker room and off the field. Some people forget that he played the whole game last week with a severly sprained ankle and a dislocated shoulder.CelticCat wrote:Oh, and to settle this Walden argument.

Anyone else see a discrepancy here? Again, meat, sorry to confuse you with the stats. Obviously the entire griz team deserves All-American honors; how could I be so blind....?Cat-theotherwhitemeat wrote:The only fact I care about is 8-2 and playoff bound. ouch.

El Gato, to simplify this for you.....you were saying said that Green, Segars, and Walden were having disappointing seasons. I disagree, saying that stats don't tell the whole story. You have to learn that stats don't always tell the whole story and any discrepancy you see is biased. Have they had All-american seasons....nope. But I certainly wouldn't call them disappointing.
You lost some repute when you said Edwards was a better qb than Ochs.

Hey Meat,
I have always enjoyed reading your posts, up until the Spencer Frederick mention. I hope that you haven't had the "pleasure" of his acquaintance. He was a good tight end, but possibly the biggest (expletive deleted) ever to come out of Scobey, Montana. He is so ridiculously full of himself and has been ever since he was in junior high school. I am not a person who dislikes very many people, but he is right up there on my list of people who I dislike. Please, lets not mention that name again.
