And yet, it's only been five years since they've won a national title, and two since they last made it to the chipper.

You're right, though, having a great passing game is far more important than having a great defense and making deep playoff runs. ;)
Lets face it come playoffs if your O cant score you will lose you will face team that can move the ball on your D

You guys are amazing.

Our 1996 team would have manhandled any Bobcat team that has ever taken the field, but you're talking smack about them because they couldn't cover a receiver who was lighting up the NFL two years later? M'kay...

I'll give you that one; if we face a team with a receiver of Randy Moss's athletic ability, we are definitely going to get beat this year. Fortunately, no such receiver exists this year, at any level of college football.

Also, remember the '95 and '96 NC games were HOME games for Marshal. I can't imagine the excuses cat fans would be throwing out there had the game been in Missoula, and had the Griz won.

I never hear how having the NC at Marshal might have helped Marshal. The point is moot for '96, Randaaayyy was too much for anybody.

I think it was Marshal's defence that was too much for the Griz.

I won't bring up the fact that after you lose this year you won't be able to blame it on the field conditions.

Their D was good, but Moss was still the deciding factor, IMO. Their defense did a good job against our offense in '95, too, but our defense was good enough to keep us in the game, and our offense was good enough to score just enough points to win. With Moss, though, our defense couldn't stop them at all.

I also will not bring up the fact that all griz fans live in the 90's for football and they happen to live in the present for basketball. That's weird? Oh...and how come every year about this time we have to hear about dave dickinson and 2002 Defensive player of the Cat/Griz game Johnnie "IN-COM-PLETE" Montana.

Does this mean we get to talk about how Travis Lulay took 3 from the Griz, for the next 20 years.

Honk shooooo.... Honk shooooo.....

If history is any indication, it will be about 20 years before the Cats do anything else worth bragging about.

So yes, probably. ;)

So... basically we can agree that the Griz have had nothing to brag about since Dave Dickenson. I am down with that. GrizLaw you are a great ambassador of the U of M School of Law.

However, after next week we will be talking about Michael Jefferson. I am sure griz fans will have some excuse.

Nothing to brag about since DD? Ayat and Miller held their own. Did anybody take a look at the playoff scores OTHER than the NC Marshal game?

Also, granted both the '95 and '96 Herd D's were VERY good. Those teams both Griz and Herd in '95 and '96 were friggin awesome teams. Other than a GSU team, and maybe a YSU team, I don't think there have been better I-AA teams than those. Maybe arguably, but not definitively...no way.

Nope; that's not actually a logical conclusion from what I said. Sorry.

You are a great advocate for the proposition that MSU teaches critical reasoning skills. ;)

Take it for what its worth, but dont sit here and tell us that since your D is so amazing you guys dont have to score points

How about this. Let's just both agree that we have the traveling trophy. (In case you don't unerstand why, it is because we won last year. Last year being the MOST RECENT meeting between the two teams). As I understand the trophy will remain in Bozeman on Nov. 18th because both schools have decided it would be a waste of time to drive it to Missoula and back. However, it is on display and you can see it anytime you want in the lobby of the Brick.

I'm sorry I got us off the subject. Let's go back to the 90's, when the griz used to beat the Cats. What were you saying about the griz-marshall game?

Once again street, you are putting words in my mouth. Where did I say the Griz D is so amazing that we don't have to score points? PLEASE SHOW ME! You can...can you?
So maybe it is you, who shouldn't sit there and tell me anything, untill you actually READ my post first. I don't think I've ever ran across someone who responds to my posts so much, without actually haveing read them.

As far as you saying '96 was the last year we had a good passing game, good for you, but I was responding to thuss bumping the year back to '95...not that it matters, one year.

Still, even '96 wasn't the last year the Griz had a good passing game, maybe the last year the Griz had a wide open spread O that was top notch.
But if you remember right, '99 and '00 where some pretty good passing game years. Drew Miller, Jimmy Farris, Etu Molden, Tanner Hancock. So, someone need to think before they start rattling off crap, masked as fact.

I'll agree that you have the trophy for now. Enjoy it, for I suspect you'll be losing it in just over a week.

As an aside -- who the hell came up with the ingenious idea of nicknaming your basketball arena "The Brick"? Isn't that pretty much just begging for smack talk? It's kind of like nicknaming your football stadium "The Fumble" or "The Missed Extra Point."

Or it would be equivalent to naming your stadium "The Wash".
