I have some friends who were Buffs with you. The initiation just wasn't something I wanted to subject myself to, but I did get an invite back in either '91 or '92.
RH and SC?
Indeed.
Either of you hear the latest on RH? It's not bad or anything.

No. I haven't seen him for a couple years at a Homecoming weekend.

Yeah. He was in PDX for it. Last I heard he's back overseas.

As a former Buf, and a member of Sigma Chi, I am saddened by the lack of current interest in the fraternal society. Are the fraternity days gone by or will we see a resurgence? I hope for the latter. I come from a long line of Sigma Chi's.

Untill this campus has a president who cares about the greek system, it appears so.

They brought in a guy named Jon Williamson at the beginning of the semester from National IFC to assess our greek community. Since 2003, the numbers have gone down 50%. It's very sad to see. MSU did pay for his visit and say they're onboard to help out and see the greek system get back to where it was and be successful, but I'll believe it when I see it. Also, part of the problem is we need a greek coordinator and they're offering $25,000/year for a full time position. You can't live in Bozeman for that.

Who ever steps into this role needs to have an Idea what is going on!! I would tie the loss in greek numbers to Bev leaving! She did a wonderful job at MSU.

When did Bev leave?

I didn't even know she was gone and during my time at MSU, she was definitely one of the few bright spots at a university that was becoming increasingly anti-Greek in terms of the student population.

Agreed, she did a great job. I think she's probably been gone at least 5 years, now. I don't think she has been there since I came back to Bozeman and got involved in our AAC. It is a must to get someone who has a clue and is willing to fight for the greek system.

I didn't know Bev had left either. There are so many negative myths about the greek system, someone like her is very much needed!

So, so true. I'm a Lambda Chi alum from 95. I can't help but think that some sort of stronger campus leadership could have helped turn around the downward spiral of LXA. Seeing the house dwindle from 100 or so active initiates at the time of my graduation to the disaster it was right before the house was sold (I think they had less than 10 live-ins) was a pretty terrible feeling. By the time most of us who have left Bozeman even knew there was such a huge problem with the chapter, it was too late to do much about it. Not saying the university was at fault one bit, just that "adults" in power at the school could have been a bit more proactive.

I was checking out wikipedia a while back and found and entry RE:

Collegiate Secret Societies - kinda laughed when I saw the Buffs listed there among Skull and Bones, Scroll and Key and the like.

Myself...resisted the invitations (numerous) to become a buff. Mainly didn't want to do the initiation. However I never seemed to be in want of a cold beer!

I am a Sigma Chi, sir. I live across the green! I'm also a member of the Zero's the "ultra secret" society within the Beta Rho Chapter. I'm dating myself, but my pledge quarter was the fall the Cats won the title. Oh Yeah!

Fun days those were, I even remember some of them! :suds:
