I don't know where this post belongs so I start it here. I just got back home from a 16 inning game in which the umpires beat the Great Falls White Sox to allow the Orem Owlz to win the Pioneet League Championships.

I am one t give the officials a fair dose of $hlT but this was beyond believe. In the bottom of the 16th the White Sox had a runner on 1st who was stealing 2nd and the batter swung at strike 3. Th ee home plate umpire had the stones to call the runner out on batter interfernce when I thought he was calling catcher interference. Next batter strokes a single that would have scored the runner from second.

This was about the 4th horrible call from the home plate ump in the game. I actually had to stop an old guy about 60 something who had pulled a knife and said he was going to stab the home plate umpire as he left the field. I know that this behavior is wrong and I stopped the guy but it was hard to believe the ump did not deserve to have is azz kicked.

In all my years I have never seen the officials screw up a game so bad.

Damn it sucked.

So why was the runner called out? That blows. And I agree, the Pioneer League ump have had a few less than stellar calls this year.

If it's batter interference, the batter is out and the runner goes back to 1st.

Blaming a game on an official = LAME. How many errors, walks and runners left on base did you have, to start with?

I would agree with you 99.9% of the time and I would say that there were other chances to win but this game there were numerous calls by this umpire that left me almost speechless. I guess I am saying this is the most effect that I have seen in a game from poor umpiring.

What kind of knife was it? I lost one in GF a few years back.

The other thing not mentioned is that he had already thrown out a player arguing a third strike, then a couple innings later threw out the catcher for holding a pitch he thought was a strike. After the incident in 16th he tossed the manager.
What a shame to wreck an otherwise great game and have your hand in determining the winner that much when so much was on the line.

I umped for 18 yrs and dumped every kid/coach/manager for arguing balls and strikes. That's an easy one. But in the same token, one has to have thick skin (the ump). If he's yelling, screaming or drawing lines in the dirt where he thought the pitch was, bye-bye. I never had a problem w/ a kid asking me where a pitch was. If I missed it, I'll tell him.

Not saying I never missed a pitch, if I missed 5 or less, I had a damn good game, IMO. I wasn't brutal, but I might have went 5" outside when, normally, I limited myself to 3" off the plate on both sides.

I wasn't there so don't know what led up to the managers ejection. Maybe all the ejections.

Another cool story.

I umped w/ a guy who spent 7-8 yrs in the Minors, about 10 yrs ago or so. My favorite story he told was in AA ball he called this "kid" out on a pitch 3-4" off the plate. This "kid" said, "that balls outside." My buddy responded, "not in this league."

Well, between innings this "kid" was going out the field and my buddy was standing on the line waiting for the next inning to start when a guy come up behind him and said, "What's your name?" My buddy gave his name and the "kid" responded, "Nice to meet you Daryn, I'm Alex Rodriquez and I need to learn to hit that pitch."

I'd say he learned to hit that pitch.
