Jack McGillis
I think Jack McGillis of Missoula Hellgate has definitely proven himself this year as the best basketball player from the state of MT, and the player with the brightest future in D1. The Griz have used up all their scholarships, in fact have given out more than they have. I think it would be a smart move on Durham's part to go after this 6'6" gaurd/small forward. He is definitely "Cat worthy". You can see him this Friday night at Bozeman High.

There are lot similarities with Dissly and McGillis. The number one similarities is from what I hear that basketball is far and above his first love but that he has greater opportunities to play Football. I hear that the griz football has offered him a partial scholarship projecting him as a TE. The griz basketball team this summer offered him (and Kellen Hasquet) a walk-on spot. I have heard (again I don't know how reliable the info is) that Carroll most likely has the advantage right now among the Montana schools to sign him to play basketball. From The Montana State side, it has been remarkably quite ..... silent. I have mentioned his name to football guys and basketball guys, always to a response of no response. I have no idea if he is on Kramer's or Durham's radar. I will say this though in the last 12 to 14 months no state of Montana basketball player has developed as much as McGillis. Both in skill and in height 6'-2" to now around 6'-6". If I knew for sure that he continue to develop at this rate I would sign him. Right now he and Kellen Hasquet are at this tweener level. Great Frontier conference player, but questionable D-1. If I had a free scholarship I might take the chance on one. I just do not know which.

First off, the Griz have offered McGillis a football scholarship to play WR. Signing day is Feb. 2. They basically offered him on pure athletic ability and can see how much he still has yet to develop. Which is a very exciting thing, thinking that he is going to get a lot better, when he is already great. The same goes for basketball. This kid is going to continue to grow and get better well into college. I don't know if he would choose football at Montana or basketball at Montana State, but it wouldn't hurt to find out (Durham). I would most definitely take a risk on this one! Actually, I don't view McGillis as a risk at all. He is definitely a solid investment.

If he has a scholarship for football he can't walk on for basketball - his football scholarship (even a partial) counts as a BB scholarship. With the Griz out of scholarships in BB he won't play BB for the Griz next year.Re/Max Griz wrote:Rumor on egriz is that BH has offered him a football schollie, not too sure if that's true.
IF it is the case maybe he's suit up for football and then walk-on to the basketball team. Just a thought...

For next year we will have for sure 3 scholarships. Towsley, Brown and Woodall. IHelcat72 wrote:How many scholarships are available next year? We only have one senior (Towsley), Frank Brown's, and maybe Martrel Johnson's maybe?
would guess that one more will open up, typically that always seems to happen. The
three that seem most likely are Martrell's (will he come back), Pratt, (he may get recruited
over) and/or Carson Durr. Now before you come unglued at me over Durr, I am not
saying that he does not belong with the Cats. I do not believe Durham would ever cut
him, but he is approaching his junior-senior years and on a basketball level does stay a
Cat , or transfer to a frontier school and be an instant impact. Take a look how well
Moralas is doing for Rocky this year.
One thing I have heard twice now is that Durham goals this spring is to sign two forwards (at least on with size who can play right away), A swing players (guard/forward), and point guard.

Thanks for the info.McGillis is in fact on Durham's radar. As well as Air Force's, Sienna's, Austin Peay's, U of N Florida's, and South Dakota St. U's. Those are the ones I have heard for sure from coaching source.

hasquet
Hellgate kid sounds GREAT!
I saw Hasquet (Sentinel) play last Thursday when the Class A Ronan Chiefs beat them. He didn't look that great. But, he's got "Deeden" in him...the griz can have him (they have his older bro too).

Re: hasquet
Yes the Hasquet brothers have Deeden in them, but having known the Deeden's that ishappycat wrote:Hellgate kid sounds GREAT!

definitely a PLUS on the Genetic and personal side. For the record it would be very
difficult to find a more upstanding family than the Hasquet's. There father is the Vice
Principle (or is he principle now) of Sentinel Highschool . The only knock I can think of
against them is the fact that they are Purple Turkeys (Sentinel High people) through and
through, granted thats a big knock. Where is Grizmania when you need him
Right now Hasquet stock is fading, McGillis's is rising and a third person to add to the possible d-1 player list is Billings Skyviews 6-5 James Bulluck, who ranks third in AA with 20.8 points and second with 11.2 rebounds.

Are you sure? Because I thought it was the same way Grizbeer put it. Do you have a link to this rule? Not that I don't trust you, I'd like to be sure for future talks.FootballFan wrote:FYI - Football scholarships do not count against BB totals.

Division I Manual: Bylaw 15.5.7.1
Of course it is never that simple with the NCAA so even though that reads that it Football scholarships don't count against BBall totals, there could be some other exception where it does.

I don't know if McGillis would do both sports (football schollie for Griz/ walk on for basketball). I have a feeling he will go in one direction and dedicate focus to one sport. Whatever that may be, he will be awsome. If he chooses basketball, it will take a D1 shcolarship for him to commit, I think. Griz have said maybe next year because they got a little ahead of themselves and have already given out too many scholarships (more than they have available). McGillis was asked to walk on at Washington and Washington St., come on Cats, let's not let this in-state supertalent get away.

I would put big money on, that the Griz wil sign one more player this fall and it will not be a Montana kid. It will be a Big man most likely JCmthoops wrote:I don't know if McGillis would do both sports (football schollie for Griz/ walk on for basketball). As far as the Cats signing McGillis, as a Hellgate alum. you are preaching to the Choir here, but the funny thing is no matter how much I may want the Cats to sign him, for some reason it is still Durham who gets to make the choice of who gets offers or not! Remember I am the one who said Durham should have signed Criswell (I will not mention the 6 or so players that did not pan out) out of high school, but NOOOOOOOO..... he would not listen to me!!
