Recruiting - Great Job Coaches!

Post by CARDIAC_CATS » Wed Jan 26, 2005 9:47 am

I am really excited about this years class. On paper they all seem exactly what I was hoping they would get this year to fill in the holes we had on the DL/RB/WR etc. I'm sure there was a lot of long work days analyzing these players and trying to decide which player fit the best. Great job coaches on a job well done. I really think this class has the potential to not only fill the holes we have, but to make our depth STRONG over the next 2-3 years (Especially in the secondary with the addition of Chris Davis). If he turns out to be a gem, then we will have Eddie and him manning the corner spots for the next 3 years with Force/Fuller back there at safety. It will give this secondary some time to GEL and become a lethal FORCE (pun intended).

It will be interesting to see if they start Taito right away (assuming he earns the start etc.) or if he will redshirt. We may need him right away depending on how JD and the rest pan out. JD does do some things very well like catching the ball out of the backfield/blitz pickup etc. He could very well explode this next year now that he is adjusted to the surroundings/school/system as well so I'm not ready to pass the torch just yet. I'm thinking a good combo of JD/Taito in there might be just what we need though. Taito can hit the homerun it sounds like.

Anyway, time for Spring Scrimmages soon! Can't wait.

I am also very happy with the class, but....lets see what pans out on the field. Recruiting is all about hype. Coaches will tell us each of these kids are exactly who they wanted and exactly what they needed and will be perfect fits in Bozeman. That being said, I still like the potential of this class. Seems like the coaches have really addressed the immediate needs while still building for the future.

Agreed, need to see if these kids can transfer their potential to the field. You can't teach size though and we have some big boys coming in it sounds like. Also, college is a big adjustment both academically and athletically. Some of them can cut it and some can't. It's always fun to go back after 2-3 years and see which guys panned out and which one's didn't. I just have a hunch that we got some good one's in this class and guys that are willing to work and get better.

Couldnt agree more!

Ideal situation is redshirting all frosh, unless they are going to make impacts as starters or quality depth. Hate to see redshirts burned on Special Teams kickoff coverage.

I am hoping Taito gets redshirted, unless he is that good. I definitely dont want to see him get 3-5 carries a game or play one series a game just to spell JD. Anyone hear progress on Milton or Gathing? What about the Bass kid...he still coming to school? And lets not forget about Evan Grove. He damn near had his redshirt burned last season when Domineck was fumbling so much and Milton/Gathing were shelved.

If JD improves on his speed, I think he can become a real force on the O besides just in the passing game. He showed some signs late in the season, so maybe this year he will really step up. Also, the OL will finally be healthy and everyone playing their natural positions with top notch depth behind the starters. That means holes will be blowing up for Dom and the running game.

I am going to say it again...this team is primed for a monsterous year, especially with the additions to the DL!

I am also excited to see who can come in and contribute right away. I wouldn't be surprised to see Taito redshirt. We have Domenic, Gathing is coming back, and I've heard a lot of good things about Evin Groves....anyone know what's going on with Milton? Either way, would should have a very strong backfield.

As for the secondary, this is the area that I am the most excited about. We have Hunter, Smith and now Davis who all seem to be very good shut down corners along with Austin who really matured under fire last year. And then with Force, Fuller, Grenfell, and Lindsey at safeties I think we are in very good shape. Also, we had a guy redshirt this year named Brian Williams (i think that's his name) who also might be in the mix.

I think that we've taken some major steps to improve the defense, and if the offense can continue where they left off last year, we should be in Great shape.

My biggest question is still on special teams. Neither Doroski or Bolton really proved anything last year as far as being consistant with field goals, and we NEED a returner. Hopefully someone will emerge either, Roosevelt, Eddie Smith, Tramaine Murray or someone else...maybe Gatewood.

All in all, I think that we are really putting ourselves to be in a position to not only contend for a BSC championship, but also that National Championship.

Add Chris Davis to the list of possible return specialists. Papers said he had 4.4 speed. I dont really hold much to 40 times, but....

I think the papers mentioned he returned kicks/punts while at NMSU in addition to the DB duties.

I would still like to see a quarterback as well as a couple of linebackers, and possibly some freshman linebackers/D-Ends.

Some frosh DEs would be local kids in Joe Schreibies and Andy Barnham. Someone mentioned Joe was offered, but what about Andy? We did get a high schooler from Colo. Springs who has great size!

Some frosh LBs would be Gazzerro and Fletcher, but could also add some more local kids in Klaboe, Utterback, Mullens. What the progress on these guys?

As for QB...I've heard Carpenter is more than capable of being Lulay's successor in '06. He will be a RS-Soph this upcoming season. I'd like to see him get some opportunities to play when the Cats are blowing out some teams. But a high school kid to redshirt would be nice to add to the list. That way he can be groomed as a RS-frosh and RS-soph when Carpenter is a JR and SR.

I have a feeling a couple of these recruits will end up as LB's for the Cats. The Fletcher/Gazzero for sure and Cerise as a DE. Quarterback is interesting as well as I'm not sure what we have after Carpenter since Coppack are all we have on our roster. Coppack is suppossedly moving to WR or someting I heard maybe this year so we will definately have some open slots at QB. I bet Kramer finds one in the later spring or it will be a HIGH priority for next year (bring in a JC with experience etc. as one of them etc.). I will be interesting to see what they do at QB next year. I agree though, 1 more freshman DE maybe might be nice as well so we can get them in the system and have depth next year.

My sources, a few guys on the team, say that Travis Doroski is no longer here at MSU. This means that unless another kicker is brought in, it appears that Tyler Bolton is the man when it comes to the kicking game.

As for Morris Milton, as far as I know he is still going to play. I talked to him the other night, I don't think that he is going to leave the team.

The biggest thing for me this upcoming season will be to see where our possession receiver will come from. Last year it was Eddie and Blake who really held down that position, and hopefully this year Brandon Roosevelt will step up, or maybe even Lulay Light. From my understanding Murray is a speedy guy a lot like Gatewood.

What about Gazzerro for returns, perhaps not this year but in the future? I realize most likely he will redshirt, but he did have impressive returns at CMR, several returns for TD's this past year. Most teams kicked away from him. I don't have his stats on returns, but am told they are very impressive. Not sure if it would be worth burning a redshirt year for?

Don't believe anything until you see that fax come into the MSU offices on signing day.

What happened to Doroski? I know he was relegated to kickoffs only last season but that was good enough for the scholarship to me. Did the injury not heal? Did he just want out? Give me a reason please!

Went to the NAU bball game last saturday with a buddy of mine and he ran into his cousin at the game. His cousin is a kicker from Billings West who said he was up here checking out the school and might be the kicker next fall. Dont know the kids name or how good he is, its just what he told me so take it with a grain of salt. Just something I thought I would share.

Unbelieveable. I've been out of town on a business trip and hadn't checked the board since Friday. All these recruits are excellent. Things are looking very good in Bobcat land... (On Paper). :D

It's been a long, long time since we got a kid from Kalispell this highly recruited! Way to go Arie! Plus, it's very important all of us have MSU plates and clothing for the kids still sitting on the fence to see for the next week. Anyone still concerned about our staffs ability to get blue chip athletes in Bozo?

As for Doroski leaving, according to my sources he just up and left. He is going to try to win the kicking job in San Diego, whether at SDSU or at some other college, I am not sure. Apparently this departure may have had something to do with the coaching here, although this is strictly third person info that I can give you at this time. This is just my info that I have gotten, if I hear anymore, I'll fill you in.

If true, that news on Doroski could prove problematic. He knocked about 2/3rds into end zone. It was no coincidence that as his kicking went south (due to the injury), the MSU defense followed.
